In the second episode of the 12-part story "The Dalek Masterplan," the Doctor and his companions have landed in the jungles of Kembel, in hopes of thwarting the latest mass-destruction scheme of the mutant Daleks. The story takes an unexpected turn when the Doctor appears to align himself with the Dalek hordes, who promptly burn down the jungle. Taken aback, Bret Vyon (Nicholas Courtney) nonetheless struggles to keep the original mission alive. Written by Terry Nation, "Day of Armageddon" originally aired on November 20, 1965; this episode apparently no longer exists. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Cliff Robertson and George Chakiris star in this dumbed-down version of The Guns of Navarone. During World War II, the story concerns a Scandinavian underground leader, Erik Bergman (George Chakiris), who reports to British authorities the location of a German V2 fuel plant. As is the case in most World War II action films, the plant is in an impregnable location -- beneath an overhanging cliff at the end of a highly defended fjord. The only way the British can hope to destroy the plant is by collapsing the cliff on top of it. In order to do that, light Mosquito aircraft must be utilized. This is the job assigned to Wing Commander Roy Grant's (Cliff Robertson) 633 Squadron. In order to assist Grant in his air attack, Bergman attempts a simultaneous ground attack, but the ground attack fails, and Bergman is captured by the Germans. When he is tortured in their efforts to uncover the RAF plans, Bergman may not be able to withhold the top-secret information. Howard Koch and James Clavell adapted their screenplay from Frederick E. Smith's novel, reportedly based on a true story. Though Koch and Clavell are each known for their excellent writing, Squadron 633 is notable mostly for its adept cinematography from the co-operative effort of John Wilcox and Edward Scaife. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

This drama follows the nine hours that came before the assassination of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi by a Hindu radical. Naturam Godse (Horst Buchholz), a Brahmin who was rejected for service in the British Army and is horrified by the fighting between Moslem and Hindu fanatics, comes to the conclusion that the only solution to the civil unrest is to kill Gandhi (J.S. Casshyap), believing that the leader's philosophy of non-violence has only fanned the flames of unrest. In love with a married woman, Rani Mahta (Valerie Gearon), Godse spends a guilty afternoon with her as he flashes back on his life of violence and mistreatment; he also pays a call to Sheila (Diane Baker), a prostitute. Meanwhile, as civil unrest flares around him, Ghandi goes about his daily rounds, despite warnings from police chief Gopal Das (Jose Ferrer) that his life is in danger. J.S. Casshyap was a 64-year-old teacher and author before being cast as Gandhi in this, his first film role. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this WW II adventure, five brave Allies endeavor to escape from an Italian POW camp in North Africa. They succeed, but their trials are not over as they must still cross the burning Libyan desert to get safely behind Allied lines. En route they are captured by a Nazi-loving sheik. The sheik takes considerable time to decide the fate of the escapees; in that time, the five manage to escape again. This time they kill their captors. Oldtime Hal Roach comedy director Alf Goulding spent his last working years in England. Goulding raises very few laughs in the melodramatic Devil's Jest, but manages to keep the action well paced. Lady Irma Enderby (Mara Russell-Tavernan) is reunited with former lover Major Seton (Ivan Craig). Although a highly-respected British medical officer, Seton's behavior is hardly that of a proper English gentleman. As it turns out, the good Major is really a bad Nazi spy. In 60 minutes flat, Seton is foiled by his grieving ex-amour Lady Enderby. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
