Anne Sheridan Movies

Beginning her brief screen career as Gloria Heller, brunette Anne Sheridan had, according to her official studio biography, studied "English literature and languages" prior to winning the beauty contest that paved the way to Hollywood. No different from a host of starlets, Sheridan played flappers in Grade-A pictures and essayed prairie heroines in low-budget oaters opposite the likes of Bob Steele, Buddy Roosevelt, and Bob Custer. She left films at the advent of sound and should not, of course, be confused with the later "Oomph Girl," Ann Sheridan (born Clara Lou Sheridan). ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide

This typical silent Western potboiler starred Bob Custer, a cowboy hero whose stetson was rather more impressive than his acting capability. Custer played Kincaid Currier, foreman of the Geyser Canyon Ranch. In an attempt to make Kin jealous, Judith Lamb (Anne Sheridan), the ranch owner's daughter, openly flirts with crooked Dallas (Richard R. Neill). The ploy works all too well, and Kin leaves the ranch in favor of a job with the railroad. Discovering that Dallas is secretly re-routing shipments of gold to Mexico, Kin confronts the crook, who abducts Judith as a last resort. With Kin in hot pursuit, villain and heroine soon find themselves in a runaway railroad car heading for the inevitable steep incline. The girl is saved by a daring jump into the river, while Dallas continues on to oblivion. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide

Based on the popular railroad ballad, Casey Jones stars Ralph Lewis in the title role. Actually, the ballad itself is dealt with only in the early scenes, when Casey's beloved daughter is killed in a train wreck. The bulk of the storyline is carried by Casey Jr. (Jason Robards), a humble baggage handler. Father and son work shoulder to shoulder in the climax to prevent a couple of professional "train wreckers" from causing widespread havoc. It should be noted that leading lady Anne Sheridan is no relation to popular talkie star Ann Sheridan. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This Raymond Griffith vehicle casts the debonair, top-hatted comedian as Algernon Schuyler Van Twitter, perennial "best man" at all his friends' weddings. To save his pal Tom Milbank (Hallam Cooley) from public disgrace, Algy tries to get his hands on some incriminating love letters in the possession of sexy Russian dancer Mimi de Lyle (Vivien Oakland). Aware that Mimi's price is a $20,000 necklace, Algy arranges to take the piece home "on approval," promising to return it after the requisite 24 hours. Unfortunately, the necklace finds its way around the neck of a pigeon, which promptly takes flight. Algy spends the rest of the picture chasing down the elusive bird, culminating in a perilous odyssey along a winding mountain road. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A very young Bob Steele starred in this average silent Western as Bob McCall, a young cowboy saving his outlaw father (Tom Lingham) from being lynched for a crime he didn't commit. The real culprit, as young Bob quickly learns, is Rufe Bolton (Stanley Taylor), the wastrel son of the local sheriff (Hal Davis). Leading lady Anne Sheridan, who also acted under the name Gloria Heller, was not the "Oomph" girl of the late '30s. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
