Marcello Mastroianni plays the downtrodden Bruno Baldassare, a murder-squad investigator in Rome who gets no respect from his peers, who give him the least interesting cases. His bumbling aide, Cantalamessa, gets even less respect. While a lightning strike could have caused the deaths of two people, the circumstances of their deaths arouse his suspicions. In this satirical detective comedy, among the suspects he must question are the victim's widow, Princess Dell'Orso (Ursula Andress) and a seedy screenwriter named Harry Hellman (Peter Ustinov). ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

The Last House on the Left was a morally bankrupt but highly profitable film about rape, murder, and revenge. The 1978 sequel, The New House on the Left, may even be more reprehensible than the original. Whereas the murder site of the first film was a remote house, the scene of the crime in the sequel is a train (thereby negating the title). This film includes more rapes, more murders, and more revenge than the original --and, undoubtedly, more cash lining the pockets of the producers. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Flavio Bucci, Macha Meril, (more)
In this French crime/action feature, Maury (Maurice Ronet) has been booted out of the police force for failing to understand which side of the toast his butter is on: he pursued the prosecution of an important police official's son who was involved in the drug trade. Even more important people in politics have their own private armies of mercenary soldiers, and when Maury is seen by them to be one of their sort, he goes along. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

- Maurice Ronet, Mario Adorf, (more)
