Sapho (Marina Vlady) is the liberated woman who sets her sights on both men and women for her sexual satisfaction. She falls for a vapid young diplomat named Lionel (Renaud Verley), and soon the two live together to continue their passionate love affair. Lionel's father (Jacques Monod) is financially wiped out and pushes his son to marry the daughter of a wealthy man. Lionel leaves the heartbroken Sapho, but he returns to her when he knkows he can't live without her love.
