When his father does not return from the Norse colony in Vinland (Greenland) for years and years, warrior son Thorvald (Lee Majors) organizes an expedition to find him. He and his co-commander Ragnar (Cornel Wilde) arrive and swiftly discover that King Eurich (Mel Ferrer) and his company were abducted by Native Americans and taken to neighboring lands. Originally telecast as a component of The NBC Sunday Mystery Movie, the feature-length opening episode of Quincy, M.E. quickly establishes the prickly personality and crusading nature of LA County Coroner's Office medical examiner Quincy (Jack Klugman). We're also introduced to several others series regulars, including Quincy's current girlfriend Lee (Lynette Mettey), his talented young assistant Sam (Robert Ito), his overcautious supervisor Dr. Robert Astin (John S. Ragin) and his police contact Lt. Frank Monahan (Garry Walberg). Diane (Celeste Yarnall), glamorous and wealthy denizen of nightclubs, lusted after by men and women, is a vampire. With the aid of dark glasses and wide-brimmed hats, she can venture out even in the daytime. She drains a horde of victims, including a biker, a mechanic and the mechanic's girlfriend, before she lures Lee (Michael Blodgett) and his wife Susan (Sherry Miles) to her mansion in the desert. Lee, who at first succumbs to her charms, panics when he finds the servant drained of blood, and tries to persuade Susan to leave with him. She is under the vampire's spell at the time, though, and refuses to leave. When Susan finds her husband's dry corpse, however, she does try to escape. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
