A strip joint murder provides the basis of this mystery. The trouble begins when the head dancer is poisoned and her understudy is shot while wearing one of the star's costumes. A police detective investigates and discovers the understudy was the real target. The prime suspect is the poisoned dancer's boy friend. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Le Coeur Ebloui (Troubled Heart) is set in France during WWI. Too young to enlist, student José Noguero remains behind in school. With no real competition, Noguero has no qualms about falling in love with much-older headmistress Huguette Duflos. From this point onward, the plot becomes confusing and cluttered; suffice to say that the course of true love has several potholes and speed bumps, especially when math professor Max Dearly also falls for Duflos. The running time of Le Coeur Ebloui is padded with reams of wartime newsreel footage. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Bar du Sud finds Charles Vanel in his usual role as a stern French colonial officer. Vanel's nemesis this time is gun-runner Jean Galland, who uses his own wife Tania Fedor to keep Vanel off his trail. Unaware of her husband's nefariousness, Fedor is also unlearned in the ways of sexual intrigue. This enables Vanel to foil the duplicitous Galland, while the disillusioned Fedor heads back to Paris for a divorce. It's hardly surprising who winds up in a romantic clinch at fadeout time. A typically complex espionage melodrama, Bar du Sud didn't fare too well when it was translated into English (which hardly cleared up the film's more obtuse plot points). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
