The Hard Road is a 1970s exploitation flick posing as a crusading expose. Connie Nelson plays a "nice" girl who goes from bad to worse after she becomes pregnant. Kicked out of school and virtually driven from her home, Nelson finds solace in drugs. The rise and fall of notorious Gay 90s tycoon Diamond Jim Brady provides the basis of this film that begins just after Brady has made a bundle on a railroad car manufacturing deal. To celebrate, he goes to San Francisco. Unfortunately, trouble brews when Jim's girl friend begins an affair with his best friend. Sandra (Monica Gayle) is a spirited young woman who revels in her sexual freedom. Her first encounter is with a young gas-station attendant in her hometown. She travels to San Francisco where she beds down with a sailor. Her next conquest is on the road with a traveling lingerie salesman who likes to model his products. In quick succession, her amorous partners are a lesbian seller of cosmetics, a burly biker, an unfaithful married businessman and finally a psychiatrist.
