Originally titled Peau D'Ane, Jacques Demy's Dos Cruces en Danger Pass is better known by its English-language title Donkey Skin. Based on a fairy tale by Charles Perrault (of Cinderella fame), the bizarre story concerns the king (Jean Marais) of a strange, enchanted land. Catherine Deneuve plays the dual role of the king's wife and daughter. When the wife dies, she makes the king promise that he'll never marry anyone less beautiful than she; thus, he is compelled to wed his own daughter! The fairy godmother (Delphine Seyrig) tries to save the girl from this incestuous fate by telling her to make impossible demands for her wedding gifts. One such demand is for the skin of a magic donkey which deposits valuable jewels in its compost heaps. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this adventure set upon a Polynesian island, a brave pearl-hunter saves a hapless native girl from being raped by one of his three treacherous partners who have hidden a great cache of stolen pearls somewhere on the island. The girl knows where it is because her brother found it and offered it to one of the island gods; she offers to take her savior to the pearls. Meanwhile, the would-be-rapist murders the native chief and tries to frame the young couple. He then steals the pearls. Just before the accused couple is to die, the island police commissioner saves them. The three take off after the crooks who have stopped upon the docks to argue. A battle ensues and in the end, the crooks are trying to sail away when their vessel is set ablaze. The villains die aboard the boat while the commissioner impounds the pearls. Seven courageous white women endeavor to survive alone in the Western wilderness after their traveling party is massacred by Indians in this western. During the attack, the women find a cave and plot their continued survival. The leader decides to keep going towards Fort Lafayette. It will be difficult as they must cross the Arizona desert without horses, guns, or food. Meanwhile a posse sets out to find the missing women. They and their leader find the ladies, but unfortunately, the renegade Indians attack. The posse leader conceals the women in a burial ground while he and his men fight back. All of the men but the leader are slain. He joins the women and they resume their arduous journey. The Indian marauder is planning a final attack when the tribal leader intervenes. He has watched the courageous women and admires their fortitude. The chief decides to protect them on their journey to safety. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
