An angel from above arrives on a mission to transform a spoiled college girl into a caring young woman in this contemporary variation on the Christmas Carol story starring Keshia Knight Pulliam, Tom Bosley, and Pooch Hall. To wealthy college girl Layla Turner (Knight-Pulliam), Christmas is all about overstuffed gift bags from Bloomingdale's and the best jewelry that money can buy - but this holiday season promises to be a real eye-opener. When an angel in disguise walks into Layla's life and shows her the true meaning of the holiday season, the girl who once scoffed at off-brand names gradually begins to realize that there's more to Christmas than designer labels. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

An international collection of well-known directors contributed to this compilation film, each fashioning a short film inspired by an aria from a famous opera. The approaches vary broadly, from the playful abstraction of Jean-Luc Godard's segment, which illustrates Armide with exercising body-builders, to the more literal approach of Franc Roddam, who transports Tristan und Isolde's story to modern-day Las Vegas. A particular stand-out is Julian Temple's take on Rigoletto, which recasts Verdi as the accompaniment to a contemporary Southern California sex farce. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

In a different type of comedy-drama based on a play by Mike Watts, director Peter Graham Scott looks at life in a British prison. Rainbow (Paul Massie) has just been sent into the slammer for a year for duking it out in a brutal fight over his girlfriend Wendy (Carole Lesley). He knows he is in for a miserable time of it, so much so that after being assigned kitchen duty he joins up with the rest of his co-workers in wheeling and dealing the food they can snitch for various sundries stolen from other parts of the prison's supply chain. This racket is well-organized, but one day its prime mover is framed and threatened with an extended sentence unless Rainbow can come up with a way to save him. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
