A member of the Crosby family entertainment dynasty, Bing's granddaughter Denise Crosby has worked steadily in film and television since the late '80s, though it would be fair to say almost wholly within the science fiction B-industry (Mutant Species [1995]). Her recurrent appearances on television's Star Trek: The Next Generation, Red Shoe Diaries, and a role in the blockbuster Deep Impact (1998) have contributed toward bringing the quintessential "working actor" to wider audiences. She was once married to Geoffrey Edwards, son of director Blake Edwards. ~ Denise Sullivan, All Movie GuideA twenty one year old virgin awakens one morning to discover that she has somehow become pregnant with a demon fetus that commands her to kill in order to create a bloody hell on earth. Mary Elizabeth has never been with a man, but now she carries the seed of Satan. Now, as her unborn spawn takes possession of her soul and sends her on a murderous rampage, Mary discovers the dark side of immaculate conception. Joan Severance and Kane Hodder star. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper returns to his rightful place behind the camera to weave this gruesome tale concerning an abandoned small-town funeral home with a dark and deadly secret. Local legend has it that the Fowler Funeral Home in Santa Loraina, CA, is plagued with death of the most unnatural kind. Rumored to have been purchased to launch a ranching business by Zeb Fowler, the land was subsequently converted into a funeral home when the cattle all began dying of a mysterious and undiagnosed ailment. When Zeb and his wife gave birth to a hideously disfigured boy named Bobby soon thereafter, the story took a strange turn as the pair attempted to shelter their son by covering his face with a burial shroud. After young Bobby disappeared at the age of eight and his parents were found brutally murdered a decade later, rumors began to swirl around the community that Bobby may still be alive. Now single mother Leslie Doyle (Denise Crosby) has moved into the long-abandoned and hideously decrepit home with aspirations of restoring it and taking on the role of town mortician for the town of Santa Loraina, and, along with her children, Jonathon (Dan Byrd) and Jamie (Stephanie Patton), she is about to discover that some legends never die. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
True love for science fiction knows no borders, and now the people who brought us Trekkies return to travel the globe in hopes of finding the world's most dedicated Star Trek fan in this belated sequel to the 1997 cult documentary. Once again hosted by Star Trek: The Next Generation's Denise Crosby, Trekkies 2 features interviews with such dedicated fans as the English Trekkie who reconstructed his Leicestershire apartment to resemble the interior of the Starship Enterprise, numerous Filk (science fiction-oriented folk music) singers and Star Trek tribute bands, and also offers coverage of the first-ever Serbian Star Trek convention. Of course, a sequel wouldn't be a sequel without the return of a few fans from the original hit, and Trekkies 2 offers follow-up interviews with such memorable devotees as Gabriel Köerner and Whitewater juror Barbara Adams. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

After a night of drunken revelry, Drew (Drew Carey) and the guys leave their "calling cards" on Mimi's lawn, a reckless display of bowel-movement bravado which costs them dearly when the Warsaw Tavern loses its liquor license. Unable to get Mimi (Kathy Kinney) to withdraw her complaint against the tavern, Drew suggests that the Warsaw bartender surreptitiously work around the liquor ban by sneaking beer into the food--the latest in a long and undistinguished line of stupid ideas. Meanwhile, would-be entrepreneurs Lewis (Ryan Stiles) and Oswald (Diedrich Bader) go into the snake-venom business. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The detectives at the 15th precinct go to great lengths to avoid meeting their new skipper, the notorious by-the-book disciplinarian Lt. Susan Dalto (Denise Crosby). Also new to the precinct is Lt. Tony Rodriguez (Esai Morales), whose impact will not be felt until the next episode. In other developments, a cash-register thief (Max Perlich) tries to get a lighter sentence by offering to lead the detectives to the dead body of a teenaged crack whore. And Eddie Gibson (John F. O'Donohue) doesn't like being in the middle of the romantic intrigues between his niece Cynthia and Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz). With this episode, James McDaniel makes his final appearance as Lt. Arthur Fancy. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

James Garner is reunited with several of his fellow cast members from the Rockford Files series in this made-for-TV sequel. It all begins when schoolteacher Ernie Landale (Hal Holbrook), the husband of private eye Jim Rockford's ex-prostitute friend Rita Kapkovic (Rita Moreno), is accused of child molestation. Never mind that the evidence is circumstantial at best, flimsy at worst: The Media have already tried and convicted Landale, irresponsibly whipping up a journalistic frenzy that turns all of the benighted teacher's associates and friends against him. All, that is, except Jim Rockford (Garner), who, together with Landale's attorney Beth Davenport (Gretchen Corbett) and police lieutenant Dennis Becker (Joe Santos), is prepared to move heaven and earth to find the actual pedophile and clear Landale's name. Filmed in 1997, The Rockford Files: If It Bleeds, It Leads made its CBS debut on April 20, 1999. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This 1998 film from director Jennifer Wynne Farmer is a family-friendly short about the magic of Halloween. It's the end of October, and that can mean only one thing: it's time to dress up and go trick-or-treating. But this year will be unlike any other Halloween before, as the kids discover the mythical Pumpkin Man. Star Trek: The Next Generation's Denise Crosby stars along with Philip Abbott. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
Thirty years ago, science-fiction editor Art Saha coined the term "trekkies" when he saw a few fans of Star Trek's first season wearing pointy ears. Today, the word is found in the Oxford dictionary, and aficionados of the long-run series have seen their subculture achieve stratospheric status. In this documentary on the fan mania surrounding Star Trek, Denise Crosby (Star Trek: the Next Generation) serves as tour guide, stopping off at a radio talkshow, visiting fans in their homes, interviewing actors of both the original and later series, and visiting fan clubs and conventions. Starbase Dental, a Trek-themed drilling station operated by dentist Dr. Denis Bourguignon, is only one of the unusual fan homages revealed here. World premiere at the 1997 Hamptons and AFI Los Angeles film festivals. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide
Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed this adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 1995 Rum Punch, switching the action from Miami to LA, and altering the central character from white to black. Ruthless arms dealer Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), who lives with perpetually stoned beach-babe Melanie (Bridget Fonda), teams with his old buddy Louis Gara (Robert De Niro), just released from prison after serving four years for armed robbery. ATF agent Ray Nicolette (Michael Keaton) and cop Mark Dargus (Michael Bowen) bust stewardess Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), who was smuggling money into the country for Ordell. Ordell springs Jackie, but when middle-aged bail bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster) picks her up at the jail, he's attracted to her, and they choose a romantic route with detours. Mistrust and suspicions surface after Jackie pits Ordell and the cops against each other, convincing Ordell that she's going to double-cross the cops. Tarantino commented on the film's budget: "Jackie Brown only cost $12 million. You can't lose. You absolutely, positively can't lose. And you don't have to compromise." ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

Having outdistanced the original Star Trek by nearly 100 episodes, The Next Generation closed out its seven-season run with this aptly titled two hour long finale. The emphasis is on Captain Picard, who in the course of the story finds himself hopscotching between the past, present, and future. Seeking an explanation for this phenomenon, Picard once more crosses the path of his old nemesis Q (John de Lancie), who, without buildup or explanation, relates some particularly bad news: Humanity is on the brink of destruction, and Picard is responsible. "All Good Things. . ." was written by Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga (then simultaneously busy on the screenplay of the theatrical feature Star Trek: Generations), and was originally telecast on May 22, 1994. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

An ancient evil escapes its captivity in a Mayan temple in Mexico, kills the archaeologists who unearth it, and heads straight for a toy factory, which is eventually taken over by a new American owner (Sam Bottoms) and refurbished. When the owner's daughter (Candy Houston) discovers one of the previous owner's doll creations and brings it home, she soon develops a strangely intense attachment to her new toy. The family's superstitious housekeeper begins to suspect demonic work afoot... and is promptly dispatched by the doll. Another archaeologist (Rip Torn) attempts to further his predecessor's research into the demon's origins and finds that the evil force was conjured centuries ago by a black-magic cult, whose members aspired to breed a hybrid of man and demon. The little girl's parents refuse to accept this theory... until they come face-to-face with an army of the malevolent dolls, all of which are under the man-beast's control. A decent but obvious riff on Child's Play, this also makes a few chilling nods to Trilogy of Terror's rampaging Zuni doll segment, and the dollies are suitably spooky. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

While Next Generation began its run with a two-part episode, and it trafficked in two-part season-ending "cliffhangers," this was the series' first "sweeps week" two-parter. It also represented the return of Leonard Nimoy in the role of the supremely logical Mr. Spock. Now an ambassador of the Federation, Spock curiously embarks upon an unauthorized mission to the hostile planet Romulus. Disguising themselves as Romulans, Picard and Data investigate Spock's highly unorthodox behavior. Just when it seems that an explanation is at hand, the picture freezes, and the viewer is told to return next week. Mark Lenard, who like Leonard Nimoy was a veteran of the original Star Trek, recreates his familiar role as Spock's father Sarek. First aired November 9, 1991, part one of "Unification" carried a pre-show dedication to Gene Roddenberry, who had died eleven days earlier. The episode was written by Jeri Taylor from a story by Rick Berman and Michael Piller. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Originally broadcast June 22, 1991, this was not only Next Generation's 100th episode, but also the second of the series' season-ending cliffhangers. The crisis at hand is a power struggle within the higher circles of the Klingon empire, the outcome of which may allow Lt. Worf to restore his family's tattered honor. As civil war threatens to break out among the Klingons, Worf's own loyalties are torn between his people and the crew of the Enterprise. A former Next Generation regular makes a surprise appearance in this episode, which was written by Ronald D. Moore. Part one of "Redemption" ends on a freeze-frame and the superimposed title "To Be Continued," which back in 1991 meant that loyal fans would have to wait until September for the outcome. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Star Trek: The Next Generation inaugurated its fifth season with the conclusion of the fourth-season cliffhanger. The situation remains the same as in part one, with the Klingon Empire on the brink of a civil war. The source of the unrest is the Duras family, who Captain Picard suspects is in cahoots with the dreaded Romulans. Risking an apocalyptic war and sorely testing his friendship with his former Klingon officer Worf, Picard orders a Federation blockade on the Klingon/Romulan border. The former Next Generation regular who appeared in part one is again on hand, this time with full screen credit. Written by Ronald D. Moore, part two of "Redemption" first aired September 28, 1991. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Long-dead Lt. Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) reappears as one of the many consequences of a time warp which causes the Enterprise's predecessor, NCC 1701-C, to journey two decades into the future. This Bradbury-esque wrinkle in time profoundly affects the present, as the crew finds itself locked in a losing battle with the Klingon Empire. Originally telecast February 24, 1990, the Emmy-nominated "Yesterday's Enterprise" was scripted by Ira Steven Behr, Richard Manning, and Ronald D. Moore from a story by Trent Christopher Gatino and Eric A. Stillwell. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

After a pleasant if somewhat quirky day together, Edwards and Winningham plan a tete-a-tete at the all-night restaurant where the girl works. While preparing to call her on a pay phone, Edwards intercepts a frantic call from a soldier stationed at a Midwestern missile silo. The message: nuclear warheads have been launched, and it's only 70 minutes to Armageddon!
