Eugene Price Movies

A member of the infamous "Texas Trio" of writers, along with fellow wordsmiths Jack Sowards and David Westheimer, Emmy-winning pen-pusher Eugene Price frequently moved between daytime dramas (General Hospital and One Life to Live) and primetime presentations (Kung Fu and Marcus Welby, M.D.) of the 1960s and 1970s.
Born in Guthrie, OK, Price received his early education at Dallas' Sunset High School before majoring in drama at the University of Texas. He began his career as a writer after a post-college stint as a radio announcer for the Armed Forces Network for the U.S. Army stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. His earliest jobs alternating among soaps, primetime shows, and TV movies, Price received an Emmy and a Writers Guild Award for his work on Ryan's Hope in 1981.
Eugene Price died of natural causes at his Putney, VA, home on March 28, 2000. He was 68. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Money on the Side is a feminist's worst nightmare. This TV movie proposes that the only recourse a housewife has to the nation's "faltering economy" (to quote the film's press release) is to turn to prostitution. The three suburban housewife hookers in this opus are Jamie Lee Curtis, Linda Purl, and....Karen VALENTINE?!?!?!? Say it ain't so, Joe. Forget this one: even the title of Money on the Side sounds like a dirty joke. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Comedian Jackie Mason made one of his many comeback attempts after the 1966 Ed Sullivan Show "flipping the finger" debacle with the low-budget The Stoolie. Mason plays a cheap crook who cops a plea with the law by offering to trap other thieves with bait money. But Mason can't leave well enough alone; he steals $7500 of the money himself and high-tails it to Miami Beach. Now he must continually look over his shoulder as both the police and the crooks try to catch up with him. Seedily effective at times (though not during the love scenes between Mason and leading lady Marcia Jean Kurtz), The Stoolie was produced in Florida and New Jersey by Jackie Mason himself; it received very limited release in 1972, then was given a second unsuccessful distribution in 1974. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
