This lavishly staged and costumed fantasy is about young Jack (Tom Cruise) and his lady love Princess Lili (Mia Sara), and how Jack battles Darkness (Tim Curry) to save both the Princess and the world. When the peasant Jack takes Princess Lili to see the unicorns, the strongest animals around, he does not know that Darkness, with his cloven hooves, yellow eyes, and red skin plans on using Lili as bait to weaken the unicorns which he does -- and plunge the world into an ice age. Soon after that disaster, Darkness captures Lili and, Jack has to rally his elves and elvettes to rescue her and subdue Darkness at the same time. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Meanwhile, Cally (Jan Chappell) has spirited the wounded Vila (Michael Keating) away to a hospital ship, ostensibly bound for the planet Chenga. Only upon discovering that their longtime enemy, Servalan (Jacqueline Pearce), has likewise boarded the ship do Cally and Vila find out that this "hospital" is actually a bank for human organs -- and that they've been slated to be "donors." This is the second sci-fi adventure based on a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first being 1975's The Land That Time Forgot. At The Earth's Core stars Doug McClure as explorer David Innes and Peter Cushing as professor Abner Perry, whose experimental "iron core" drill goes out of control and leads them to the underground kingdom of Pellucidar, where the Wing People are ruled by the monstrous, flying Mahars. With the help of the professor, Innes leads the Wing People in revolt against their evil masters. The six-part Doctor Who adventure "The Monster of Peladon" takes place some 50 years after the events depicted in the ninth-season story arc "Curse of the Peladon." The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) makes a return visit to the troubled planet Pelodon, where he ends up in the middle of a war between hostile factions of the the Galactic Federation, and also a labor-management mining dispute which likewise threatens to tear the the planet apart. And that's not all: A former adversary of the Doctor may again be at large -- in the form of a hostile ghost. Like its "prequel," "The Monster of Peladon" was written by Brian Hayles. Though Aggedor had proved to be rather benign during the Doctor's last visit to the planet, such is definitely not the case this time around.
