Unable to slay a bad case of the flu, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is admitted to the hospital. While sleeping, she has a dream about a tall dark creature with a young boy. The next day she discovers the same boy is a patient in the children's ward. He says the creature is Death and has killed many children. A more obvious culprit is the unorthodox Dr. Backer, but Buffy finds him dead. Meanwhile, Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) suspects that Jenny's (Robia La Morte) death might be causing Buffy to fabricate a creature to fight, but he soon uncovers the creature's identity as Der Kindestod, or "child death." Buffy reinfects herself with her fever to battle the monster because he can only be seen by those in the feverish state. It is also revealed that Buffy first encountered Der Kindestod as an eight-year-old when her cousin died in a hospital. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi

Teenage lust turns deadly in this slightly campy exploitation drama. Debbie Strand (Rose McGowan) is a sexy but troubled teenager with a checkered past who is sent to live with her grandmother after the death of her parents. Grandma attempts to keep Debbie on a short leash, but she's soon sneaking out for not always wholesome fun with her new friends. Debbie, who has never had trouble attracting whatever man she wants, sets her sights on Peter Rinaldi (Alex McArthur), a teacher at her high school. However, Peter has both a fiancée and strong scruples, so he repeatedly rejects Debbie's advances. But Hell hath no fury like a Debbie scorned, and before long Peter finds that his life is ruined and bodies are piling up, as an angry Ms. Strand takes her revenge on her would-be suitor. Also released under the title Dearly Devoted (and not based on the oft-filmed Raymond Radiguet novel), Devil in the Flesh was co-scripted by Kelly Carlin-McCall, daughter of noted comedian George Carlin. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A dramatic treatment of a family torn apart by alcoholism and recovering from it, this was a star vehicle for popular actress Meg Ryan, who plays Alice Green, a school counselor who has a serious drinking problem. Her husband is Michael (Andy Garcia), an airline pilot. Though she's lighthearted and loving, Alice is often reckless and, when drunk, even neglects her children, nine-year-old daughter Jess (Tina Majorino) from a previous marriage, and four-year-old daughter Casey (Mae Whitman), whose father is Michael. After an accident, Alice realizes that she has "hit bottom" and goes into a clinic for rehab. When she returns home, she has kicked her addiction and has become independent and strong, and her perfectionist, controlling husband has trouble adjusting. Michael is used to his wife being weak and helpless, and they end up seeing a marriage counselor to recover from Michael's "co-dependency" on Alice's role as an alcoholic. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi
