A young teenage boy zealously tracks down criminals in this allegorical drama. Using the code name of Plumbum, Ruslan Chutko (Anton Androsov) delights in the pursuits of lawbreakers before informing the police, and he even turns in his own father when he catches him poaching fish. The questions are left to the viewer whether or not Plumbum is a crusading hero or a scoundrel. Western audiences may find the premise implausible, but children were known to inform on their own parents under the regime of Josef Stalin and others. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

Shag is a beach flick set in 1963. The years have passed, but the old Where the Boys Are formula holds firm: Four attractive young lasses head for the surf and sand of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, looking for guys. Phoebe Cates is about to be married, so her three pals seek out a final affair d'amour on her behalf before she is lost to the world forever. The cast is fascinating for its family ties: Bridget Fonda is the daughter of Peter Fonda, Page Hannah the sister of Darryl Hannah, and Tyrone Power III is the son of you-know-who. Filmed in 1988, Shag was released that year in Europe, then offered to American audiences one year later. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Tatyana (Yelena Yakovleva) works as a nurse in a hospital in Leningrad. However, she has wants that her salary cannot provide for her, and sometimes she earns some hard currency by sleeping with foreign tourists. One of these is an uninspiring Swedish man, who offers to marry her. She is tempted, because she believes that the material aspect of life in Sweden is infinitely superior to that in Russia. Overcoming the resistence of the bureaucracy to her marriage, she succeeds in moving to Sweden with her new husband. Alas, she is soon bored with her new existence, and returns to her old hooking habits. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

In this tragicomedy, Lt. Poletaev (Yevgeny Mironov) is an irrepressible character. Even the grim character of service in the Red Army following World War II isn't enough to dampen his spirits. Instead, he keeps things lively by accompanying the base's chorus on his accordian, and by attempting to get women to join the chorus. He succeeds in both his quests. Not only that, but one of the woman singers (Irina Rozanova) and he have a nice little romantic spark going. It's too bad that she's the live-in lover of his boss, Col. Vinogradov (Valentin Gaft). ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
