South Korean filmmaker Kim Mun-saeng directs the animated feature Wonderful Days (also known as Sky Blue). In the year 2142, the Earth's ecosystem has finally given over to overbearing levels of pollution. The popular masses live in a dark and dingy world under perpetually grey skies while a select few live in a beautiful city called Ecoban. The city's elite enjoy relative comfort in a environment that is fueled by carbon pollution and generates even more waste matter. When Ecoban security officer Jay discovers her leaders plotting an evil scheme, she begins to doubt her place in it. Meanwhile, her childhood friend Shua is leading a secret rebellion of the masses. He is helped by Dr. Noah, a scientist who originally designed the city. They plan a major attack on Ecoban's power grid, the Delos System. The crew of the U.S.S. Voyager must confront a despotic leader who is also a psychological parasite in this episode of the television series Star Trek: Voyager. The Voyager rescues three Ilari aliens from a malfunctioning spaceship about to blow up: a man named Adin (Anthony Crivello); a woman named Nori (Galyn Gorg); and Nori's husband, Tieran (Leigh J. McCloskey). Shortly after the castaways are brought onboard, Tieran dies, and Kes (Jennifer Lien) begins acting strangely, assassinating a Ilari leader during a routine stop, and fleeing in a shuttle craft with Adin and Nori. The crew of the Voyager soon learn that Tieran was a former Ilarian leader who was overthrown years ago, and now sends his spirit on to inhabit new bodies and carry on his mission of hate. Based on a true story, the two-part TV movie I Know My First Name Is Steven tells the tragic story of Steven Stayner. At age seven, Steven was kidnapped by two men who held him captive in a tiny shed for seven years. One of the men, a habitual child abuser named Kenneth Parnell, sexually assaulted Steven on an almost daily basis during the boy's ordeal. At age 14, Steven finally was able to escape and return to his family. But we are shown that Steven's safe return was far from the happy ending it appeared to be. He's forced to adjust to a family he'd never really known, to convince himself that his parents had never forgotten him, and to put his seven-year hell behind him. While I Know My First Name Is Steven ends on an upbeat note, the real Stayner died in a motorcycle accident only a few months after this film was first telecast in May 1989. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
