The Bankses' veddy proper butler Geoffrey (Joseph Marcell) falls in love with Karen Caruthers ( played by future Wayans Bros. regular Anna Maria Horsford), who has led him to believe that she is a maid in the new neighbor's house. Once Geoffrey discovers that Karen is actually the house's wealthy owner, he is reluctant to marry "above his station" and does everything he can to sabotage his budding romance. The Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker story was a "natural" for TV-movie adaptation, and Fall From Grace more than fills the bill. Bernadette Peters heaps on makeup by the trowel as Tammy Faye, the wife of televangelist Jim Bakker (here played with boyish fanaticism by Kevin Spacey). The Bakkers build up their "PTL" organization ("Praise the Lord") into a massive empire encompassing millions of dollars in donations, a cable-TV network, valuable land holdings and a garish religious theme park, Heritage USA. A North Carolina newspaper rocks the boat by investigating inequities in the Bakkers' financial setup. The whole enterprise falls apart when it's discovered that Jim has siphoned off funds to cover up an extramarital affair. Telecast in the spring of 1990 to coincide with the beginning of Jim Bakker's long, long prison sentence, Fall From Grace tries to be fair...for at least fifteen minutes. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Season Six of Murder She Wrote closes with an episode centering around the exploits of Jessica Fletcher's (Angela Lansbury) erstwhile friend, suave British secret agent Michael Haggerty (Len Cariou). On assignment in Sicily, Haggerty poses as a monsignor to crack a case involving a caddish fortune hunter, a wealthy young widow and her Mafia-connected in-laws (who never let her out of her sight!), and various and sundry other intrigues. Brian Dennehy plays a Wambaugh-type cop who has flourished as a novelist. At the moment, however, Dennehy is suffering from a profound case of writer's block. Coming to the rescue, as it were, is professional hit man James Woods. Recently dumped by his boss, above-suspicion business executive Paul Shenar, Woods is anxious to tell his life story to Dennehy, in hopes of striking it rich with a tell-all bestseller. Shenar, however, takes a dim view of Woods' indiscretions, and for a while it looks as though it's curtains for both Dennehy and his teenaged daughter Allison Balson.
