Reality drops into focus on several levels in this story of Kiril (Dimiter Ganev), a student filmmaker recording the construction of a building project directed by his father. His purpose is to submit his film essay as a requirement in the entrance exams for the film school at Sofia -- exams he has failed twice now. As his believably amateur, true-to-life vignettes of the history of the construction project are reviewed, everything from the strange to the comic emerges: a pop-band in need of talent, administrative meetings, and workers in amusing situations on the job. Just as Kiril is about ready to splice together some sort of coherent narrative, his father is fired from his position and the irate workers are blaming the filming for that fiasco. Although Kiril has some hard knocks coming yet, he is not about to turn tail and become an accountant. As a final reality check, the real-life director Ivan Pavlov graduated from the film school in Sofia and this is his first feature-length film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
