Writer-director Jean-Charles Tacchella, who had a huge international hit with Cousin, Cousine in 1975, helmed this drama 12 years later. In post-WWII France, three friends are intent on starting a film club for different reasons. Nino (Thierry Fremont), a rich playboy, thinks that it would be amusing to become a director. He hooks up with Donald (Simon de la Brosse), a young man from the countryside who is a serious student of film and hopes to become more urbane by getting involved in cinema. They join forces with Barbara (Ann-Gisele Glass), a young woman who knows how to get into a film warehouse. Their plan is to steal old prints from the warehouse and start their own enterprise. ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide

Brigett Fossey stars as a repressed young nurse who hopes that moving from the city to the country will open up new vistas in her life (thereby reversing the usual country-to-city route of most movie heroines!) She meets and falls in love with bachelor Jacques Serre, likewise a free spirit. Though Fossey and Serre are attracted to one another, both value their freedom too much to make a firm commitment. As they draw closer, the twosome compare their own lifestyles with those of the colorful country folk all around them. The original French title of this easy-going romantic drama is Le Pays Bleu. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Focusing on the characters of those involved, this French drama explores a political campaign in a small town and the corruption which enters into it. Sex education gets the countrified locals all roused up against a citified school reformer, even though it is actually a side issue. The farmer whose concerns are picked up as a theme by the right-wing politicos figures out that he is being used. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
