"It feeds on fear!" read the advertising tagline for this Roger Corman-produced shocker. What could be scarier than a rogue crocodile, except maybe a rogue dinosaur? How about a combination thereof -- a DinoCroc? Hoping to create a cheap alternative to expensive prescription medicines, the greedy Gereco Corporation genetically manipulates a small supply of DNA from a prehistoric creature called the Sarcosuchus. Suddenly revived and very hungry, this ancient "DinoCroc" kills indiscriminately (in some very gory scenes that border on the grotesquely hilarious), but has a special fondness for human flesh. Professional herpetologist and crocodile hunter Dick Sydney (Costas Mandylor) is brought in from Australia to stop the rampaging beast, with the grudging assistance of female scientist Paula Kennedy (Joanna Pacula) and the more willing cooperation of Sheriff Harper (Charles Napier) and his ever-imperiled daughter, Diane (Jane Longnecker). Along the way, the viewer is treated to gratuitous dollops of sex and bad language, which along with the excessive violence earned the film an R rating in its original form. The climax is right out of the movie Them, with a bit of urban legend-spinning thrown in. Filmed under the title PrimeEvil, DinoCroc was given a very, very limited theatrical release before it aired over the Sci-Fi Channel on April 24, 2004. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Mekhi Phifer makes his first series appearance as Gregory Pratt, a remarkably self-confident intern who is supervised by Greene (Anthony Edwards) during the latter's last day with the ER. Pratt's zealous eagerness prompts the terminally ill Greene to rethink how he will spend his final days on earth; and later on, he has a poignant reunion with his ex-wife, Jenn (Christine Harnos). The second part of a crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (see Buffy, "The Harsh Light of Day"), this episode of Angel guest-stars Seth Green as Oz, the werewolf rocker, and James Marsters as Spike, one of Angel's vampire nemeses. On tour with his band, Dingoes Ate My Baby, Oz comes to L.A. bearing a gift from Buffy to Angel -- the Gem of Amarra, a magical ring that makes any vampire who wears it truly invulnerable. Thinking the talisman too dangerous to use, Angel (David Boreanaz) hides it in the sewers underneath the city. Spike soon arrives and retains the services of Marcus (Kevin West), a fearsome, child-eating vampire, to torture and kidnap Angel. Although Angel keeps his mouth shut despite unimaginable agony, Doyle (Glenn Quinn) and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) find the ring, and, in an attempt to save their boss, inadvertently allow it to fall into Marcus' hands. Angel must chase the fiend to a crowded beach in full sunlight to prevent him for exercising his bloodlust on the amassed kiddies. Afterward, Angel uses the ring's powers to enjoy one day unharmed in the sunlight before pulverizing it to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. Originally broadcast October 19, 1999, on the WB network, "In the Dark" marked season one, episode three of the supernatural comedy drama. In this comedy from writer-director John Boorman, wealthy real estate mogul Stewart McBain (Dabney Coleman) owns a demolition firm which specializes in blowing up old buildings to make way for upscale new ones. When neighbors protest his plans to raze a dilapidated old building to make way for a new Brooklyn subdivision, television crews film the confrontation, and McBain comes off like a fool. His three spoiled children ridicule him. Tired of their carping, McBain gives them each 750 dollars and drops them off at the old building, known as the Dutch House. Daphne (Uma Thurman), Chloe (Suzy Amis), and Jimmy (David Hewlett) are at first completely lost, because they have no idea how to live in the real world. As McBain and his wife, Jean (Joanna Cassidy), monitor their children's progress, the three youngsters learn to get along with the neighborhood people and eventually set up a commune of sorts, into which they invite their friends and various homeless people. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

Fisher Stevens reprises his role of Ben Jahrvi, the co-inventor of the cute robot Number Five, in this sequel to Short Circuit. Since the last film, Ben has moved to the city, where he lives in a truck and sells toy Number Fives as a street vendor. Ben plies his trade until one day luck strikes in the form of Sandy (Cynthia Gibb), a toy buyer in dire straits who offers Ben $50,000 if he can quickly churn out a thousand toy robots. Offering to help the naive Ben is street con man Fred (Michael McKean), who becomes Ben's partner and finances the burgeoning enterprise through a loan shark. Ben and Fred begin to manufacture the toys in a warehouse; unfortunately, they soon find the building also houses the entrance of a tunnel dug by thieves, preparing to rob the bank across the street. With things appearing their bleakest, a crate arrives from Montana. Inside is the new and improved Number Five, who now insists on being called Johnny Five. Johnny Five has even learned to talk in a litany of phrases gleaned from television shows, and now helps Ben get started in the toy business.
