Producer Inaki is reeling from a break up with temperamental aspiring actress Ione when he is hired by a religious order to make a film that will encourage young people to take up the pious life. His friend Karlos, a director who has also slept with Ione, grudgingly joins the project, and finds every creative instinct he might harbor overturned by a priest. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi

Things ought to be going well for Aitor (Martxelo Rubio). A young filmmaker, Aitor has been given the go-ahead for his first feature film, to be called "Soul Ache," and is in the midst of casting with the help of his producer, Cesar (Juan Potau) and assistant director Bruno (Bruno Buzzi). But Aitor would just as soon use this opportunity to seduce as many women as possible instead of seriously weighing his options for the female lead. While he wants Myriam Mezieres for the part, he ends up seeing nearly 30 actresses (including his own girlfriend -- whom he turns down) as he tries to find the right woman for the role, as well as the right woman for himself. Agujetas En El Alma, about a filmmaker making his first feature, was in fact the first feature for Spanish independent director Fernando Merinero. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A hopeless, bleak mood hangs over this heavy drama about three teens in San Sebastian, a port city on the Bay of Biscay in the Basque country of Spain. Covert references are made to political issues like the miseries of shipyard workers and to the police as rather brusque and hard-nosed. Drugs are rampant in the lower orders of city life; one of the teens has dropped out of high school and is a user, as is his girlfriend. He survives by stealing and by handouts from his family, who nevertheless want nothing to do with him. No matter how much a third teen friend tries to get this couple to give up the habit, nothing works. The ultimate question, though not emphasized here, may be who is really responsible for what happens to this unfortunate young couple. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
