At a pace faster than a speeding bullet or flying cream pie, this farce is about two men -- hunk Walter (Ole Stephensen) of the dim bulb, and slapstick shoe repairman Carlo (Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen). Straight out of Danish television, the two characters are already stereotyped as they set off through exotic Spain on a package tour. Instead of the usual treks through museums, historic sites, and restaurants, there are encounters with diamond smugglers, thugs, and the requisite pretty women. Between Carlo's jabber and Walter's befuddled views, the duo are hard-pressed to woo and win. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

The ladies of the title are a pair of Danish cabaret entertainers, played by Helle Ryslinge and Anne Marie Helger. As a reaction to their own domestic travails, Ryslinge and Helger have developed an act in which they poke fun at traditional sexual manners and mores. While the casual viewer might presume that this film is a ham-handed feminist manifesto, Ladies on the Rocks is engagingly sweet-tempered, even when doling out well-deserved punishments to its male-chauvinist characters. Male director Christian Braad Thomsen co-wrote the screenplay with stars Ryslinge and Helger. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In this police thriller, a policeman returning to work after a nervous breakdown is asked to give perfunctory treatment to a case involving his ex-wife and her new lover, a petty criminal. This kibosh has been laid on by his higher-ups at the urging of a group of important businessmen. However, the policeman persistently investigates and nearly blows the lid off of a really big swindling operation. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This provocative sci-fi outing is set in an over-populated, horribly polluted 21st century where child-bearing has become illegal. To help ease the tension and stress caused by not procreating, married couples use robot dolls to substitute for children. One couple decides to break the law and have a real baby in secret. Unfortunately, their neighbors find out and demand that the couple share the baby with them. The other couple does so, but finds that the neighbors get too attached to the infant. They stop sharing their child, and the neighbors becomes so angry that they report them to authorities. The couple and their baby are arrested and sentenced to death. Fortunately, the clever husband anticipated this and made a few plans in advance. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

This film has sexual situations and occasional full frontal nudity. One of the two men in this Danish film has a ballet-dancer girlfriend whom he is quite fond of, but he is not averse to going to bed with an actress friend while the ballet dancer is on tour. The other fellow has been having a fling with an East German refugee, and though he has her in his bed, he is having a hard time getting her to connect emotionally. It seems she has a yen to return to her home, even though getting there could cost her her life. Her erstwhile boyfriend and his friend both risk life and limb to help her. Curiously, this film has a somewhat happy ending, reportedly due to the insistence of the film's producer. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
