This political allegory comments upon the early 1970s in Greece, the time when democracy was finally restored. The tale begins in 1971 as the son of a communist grows tired of ostracism and moves to Paris to find a better life. There he lives with an ignorant, distant cousin who works as a furrier in a French ghetto. The cousin has found a picture of a famous singer and he considers it a good luck charm. When the young exile sees the photo, he inquires about the woman, and the cousin claims that she is his sister. The exile falls in love with the picture. He begins looking for the woman and a terrible tragedy ensues. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Greek filmmaker Nikos Koundouras directed this interesting allegory centered on the overthrow of the Ottoman occupation of Crete in 1897 and its impending reunification with the Greek mainland. Marina Vlady stars as a hooker from Marseilles named Rosa Bonaparte who brings 12 young prostitutes to Chania with her and starts a bordello in an old mansion. The bordello becomes something of a hub of international activity, where spies mingle with revolutionaries, businessmen, and soldiers to plot, drink, and discuss the current political climate. Rosa's girls, meanwhile, just go about their business, entertaining the men and trying to remain detached from the swirling turmoil of the outside world. Eleonora Stahtopoulou co-stars with Vassilis Lagos and Aris Retsos. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

In a one-man tour-de-force, George Panoussopoulos wrote, directed, and did just about everything except star in this curious, inventive story about primal nature and a modern woman. Zoe (Alessandra Vanzi) is tapped to go to the U.S. for some specialized computer training because she is a whiz in her job as a program analyst. The married mother of two is happy about her distinction, but when she decides to stroll through the National Gardens of Athens with her daughter one day, something unexpected and unexplained starts to happen. Circumstances lead Zoe to an awareness that she has powerful, primitive, ancient forces still strong within her, and she has the ability to open them up if she chooses. But when she does so, her own identity starts to recede, and the children and animals in the park are frightened -- and start an outright panic. The police are called in, and Zoe's own existence is threatened. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

This preposterous mystery from Greek writer/director Yiorgos Karypidis has all the intricate twists and implausible coincidences of the Italian giallo, with none of the style inherent to the genre. Aris Restos stars as Kostas, who is vacationing in Mytilene when he falls for Anna (Zoe Laskari), a German woman married to a Greek mobster (Spyros Fokas). After Anna turns up dead, Kostas is arrested and released for lack of evidence, then decides to solve the crime himself. Stefanos Stratigos co-stars with Filippos Vlachos and Marika Nezer. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi
