Bollywood bad-boy Salman Khan stars in screenwriter/director Shirish Kunder's romantic tale of two men who share an intense love the same woman, but just can't seem to find the words to express their heartfelt feelings. Suhaan (Khan) is the kind of college stud that every woman on campus longs for; a wannabe rock star whose smooth way with words can melt hearts, he longs to be with the beautiful Piya (Preity Zinta). But Suhaan isn't the only man on campus with eyes for the Piya, because loveable dreamer Agastya (Akshay Kumar) also harbors deep feelings for the girl. Though the fun-loving trio is virtually inseparable on campus, neither the ultra-smooth Suhaan or the lovably nerdy Agastya can muster the courage to make their love known to the unassuming object of their affections. Ten years after college graduation, Suhaan has become a famous singer and Agastya a highly-respected astronaut; yet despite their success in life, both men's for Agastya still goes unspoken. When fate brings the long-separated trio together once again on an idyllic afternoon, fond memories rapidly resurface and an undying love soon underscores the happy reunion. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Based on Robinton Mistry's biting epic novel of the same name, this drama recounts the spiritual and physical consequences that result when a decent man allows himself to be convinced to perform an illegal act in the name of patriotism. The story takes place in India, 1971, a time when the country was fighting Pakistan for control of Bangladesh. Middle-aged Parsee Gustad Noble (Roshan Seth) has spent most of his adult life caring for his wife and children. With a sickly daughter and an estranged grown son, Noble feels dissatisfied and bored with his life until he reunites with his estranged friend Jimmy Bilimoria (Naseeruddin Shah), who asks Gustad in a letter to launder money for his cause. Though normally known for his impeccable morals, Gustad agrees to do so, employing the assistance of his dimwitted co-worker Dinshawji (Sam Dastor). This film was shown in the "Special Presentation" category at the 1998 Toronto Film Festival. It also received numerous "Genie" awards in its native Canada. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Liberally sprinkled with dashes of humor, this is a fast-paced comedy about a family and their friends who lived through the transition of Goa from a Portuguese colony to a district governed by India. Ana (Sushma Prakash) is about to become engaged (unwillingly) to the unappealing Erasmo when her beloved grandfather suddenly dies. Her grandmother is so overwhelmed by grief that Ana's engagement is put on hold indefinitely (along with everything else) while granny tries to contact the spirit of her dead husband. But her wires get crossed each time and instead of grandpa, she brings forth ghosts of people the family has wronged in the past. Meanwhile, Ana's real love is hiding out in the cellar. As Ana's marriage to Erasmo draws near, she faints dead away because (as he soon finds out) she is pregnant, but not by him. These and other events are revealed in flashbacks as a former resident in the house returns to visit 25 years later. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

With songs and musical numbers that are woven through the storyline, this unevenly-paced drama is about a brothel that has been an institution in a small town for a very long time. The women entertain the local clients with suggestive songs and dances and are not the type of prostitutes that ply their trade in New York City, for example. Unfortunately for the business of the brothel, a developer wants to schedule some new buildings for the town, so the madam is forced to move her women to the outskirts, and things will just never be the same again. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

An older woman teaches Shakespeare in a girls' school, but events conspire to get her down-graded to an entry-level position. Just as that misfortune occurs, her only remaining family member -- a brother in an institution -- dies. Bereft on these personal and professional levels, she is especially grateful for the friendship of a couple she has met and has generously invited to share her apartment. The couple move out when they marry, and the woman goes to their wedding, continuing her acts of generosity to her newfound friends. Some time goes by before she realizes that the couple had been friends as long as they needed her apartment, and now that they no longer need it, they are not that interested in keeping up a relationship with her. When she does not hear from them any longer, she is at a loss as to how to recuperate some sort of balance in her life. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
