The son of actors Sean Connery and Diane Cilento, London-born Jason Connery inaugurated his own film career in 1982 with The Lords of Discipline, which though set in a Southern military academy, was lensed in England. His next film was The Boy Who Had Everything (1983), a title that provided ammunition for those jaundiced critics who assumed that Jason's career was merely a by-product of his parents' fame. In fact, Jason was talented enough to carve out a career without his lofty pedigree, as proven by his swashbuckling star turn in Robin of Sherwood, a well-distributed BBC television series of the late 1980s. In 1990, Jason Connery was wittily cast in the title role in the made-for-cable The Secret Life of Ian Fleming, a fanciful biography of the author/adventurer whose "James Bond" novels had helped catapult Jason's dad Sean to fame. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide- 1989
Tank Malling (Ray Winstone) is the name of a tough newspaper reporter who has just gotten out of prison for a framed-up charge of perjury. Nowadays, he is covering the racetrack beat. When Helen Searle (Amanda Donohoe), a society call-girl, looks him up and begins telling him a story of high-class corruption and wrongdoing, it attracts the attention of a pretty grim customer (Glen Murphy), who begins murdering people who are important to the story. Only the publisher of gay bar magazines is willing to print Tank's story. Fortunately for Tank, he has a knack for making lowlife friends both as a prisoner and as a reporter. This retelling of Charles Perrault's ever-popular children's tale, Puss In Boots is about Puss, a cat who is full of schemes and strategies, and who can turn into a human being Christopher Walken when he wants to. In this film, Puss is the sole inheritance of Corin (Jason Connery), a young man who is now living on the streets. The cat reveals some of his abilities to the lad, and promises to bring him all sorts of good things. In a series of amusing adventures, Puss proceeds to make good on his word. Set in the 16th century, this bawdy comedy is erotic without pornographic detail as two women and one man enjoy a wild and lusty relationship. Angela (Laura Antonelli) is widowed and one day, as she gazes out her window, she is stirred by the sight of a dashing blond foreigner (Jason Connery, son of Sean). She eventually sends her ladies' maid to speak to him as a go-between, while the ladies' maid of the married woman next door is on the same errand. It seems the foreigner is more interested in Angela's neighbor but has no compunction about making love to both women. The dashing young man is soon literally dashing from one woman to the next in a mixed-up confusion, not wanting to give himself away as romancing two women instead of one. The instigator of this outrage is a slug-like monstrosity called Sil (Nabil Shaban), the greedy representative of a despotic mining company. Jason Connery (son of Sean Connery) stars as Johnny Kirkland in this slightly uneven teen drama about facing down obstacles at college and at home. When Johnny goes off to the university, he is leaving behind an aloof and alcoholic mother (Diane Cilento, Jason Connery's real-life mother) whose recent divorce has further destabilized her emotionally. At school, his frat brothers latch on to the fact that Johnny excelled in his high school at both grades and sports and rather than hope his success will continue, they do everything they can to "bring him down to size." Apparently, their own size is quite small, indeed, barely visible to the naked eye if their loutish behavior is any yardstick. Compounding these problems are Johnny's troubles with his girlfriend Robin (Laura Williams) -- can life get any worse? Five Emmy nominations went to the two-part TV drama The First Olympics: Athens 1896. The story begins in 1894, when Baron Pierre de Courbetin (Louis Jourdan) announces his intention to stage the first Olympic games of the Modern Era within two years in Athens. The baron heads to the US to recruit an athletic team. Despite disinterest, opposition and spotty funding, de Courbetin assembles his team with the help of Princeton professor William Sloane. The thirteen chosen Americans have a pretty bumpy time of it, but most survive to the final Olympic contest: the grueling Marathon. The supporting cast is top-heavy with veterans from both America and England, including Angela Lansbury, Honor Blackman, Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna. Among the leading players is future NYPD Blue star David Caruso as Irish-American athlete James Connolly. The story is strictly from Conan the Barbarian, as Robin struggles with an evil sorcerer who'd plagued him during his "Earl of Huntingdon" days. Judi Trott shows up as Maid Marian, a role she would continue to play in several subsequent Robin Hood TV movies opposite Michael Praed.
