Alexa Wolf directed this politically charged documentary about pornography in Sweden, which focuses on its human impact on both audiences who view it and the actors who appear in it. Wolf's contention is that actors in hardcore porn films are, in essence, prostitutes, and that most women involved participate in the films against their will, suggesting the producers are guilty of rape. Shocking Truth features a number of explicit excerpts from Swedish porn films that depict violent or humiliating sexual situations, as well as interviews with the actors involved in the films; the performers, however, were not interviewed by Wolf herself, but as part of a Swedish cable television show devoted to showing hardcore films, leaving open the question whether the actors and actresses were answering "in character," or expressing their true feelings. Wolf's film also generated controversy in Sweden for the appearance of Lisa Nelson, a college student doing research on pornography, whom some writers suggested was actually an actress playing a role created by Wolf in order to support her own opinions on the issue. Ricochet, a suspenseful, exciting police thriller that loses its way at the end, is the story of a good cop whose life is destroyed by an obsessed psychotic criminal whom he sent to prison years before. Nick (Denzel Washington) is a successful happily married police officer with a distinguished record. He is drugged, kidnapped and framed by Blake (John Lithgow) who has never forgiven him for arresting him years before. Nick must redeem himself both to the police force, his family and the public who had come to love and respect him. Denzel Washington is excellent in his role of the good man in an impossible situation. John Lithgow, while always interesting, is completely over-the-top as the psychotic criminal, and the film looses plausibility during an extended and highly improbable and unbelievable final chase sequence around the Watts Towers. Despite these flaws, Ricochet is an exiting suspense film with a fine performance by Washington and worth watching despite its disappointing conclusion. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

In the conclusion of Murder She Wrote's two-part Season Five finale, Jessica (Angela Lansbury) is still contending with her witchy rival mystery writer Eudora McVeigh Shipton (Jean Simmons). Although the duplicitous Eudora confesses that she has stolen the notes for Jessica's latest novel, she denies that she tried to do her rival in with a poisoned apple--and even more emphatically denies murdering the detective who has trailed Eudora all the way to Cabot Cove. The two amateur sleuths decide to briefly bury the hatchet and solve the mystery...provided that Eudora can be trusted any farther than she can be thrown! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Advertised as a parody of cheapo-sleazo biker flicks, Easy Wheels looks so much like the real thing that one wonders whether or not we were originally supposed to take the whole megillah seriously. Biker Bruce (Paul Le Mat) and She Wolf (Eileen Davidson) forget their mutual animosity long enough to plan a mass abduction of female babies. The idea is to create a race of super biker chicks, who will enslave mankind and set up a leather-jacketed matriarchy. Bruce isn't completely sold on this idea and bides his time until he gets a chance to undermine She Wolf. Filmed in glamorous Des Moines and Dubuque, Easy Wheels makes all those American-International flicks of the 1960s look like the collected works of Antonioni. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Eugene Roche is cast as veteran reporter Billy Simms, yet another longtime friend of Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While recovering from a heart attack, Billy expresses the wish that something very, very bad would happen to the slimy publisher who took over Billy's former newspaper and turned it into a trashy tabloid. Sure enough, the publisher is murdered, casting suspicion not only on Billy but also Jessica, whose reputation had recently been slimed by the newspaper.
