Jerri (Amy Sedaris) struggles with a lesson in motherhood on this "painfully special" episode of Comedy Central's demented ode to the after-school special. Clueless as to how to care for the baby that was assigned to her in Coach Wolf's (Sarah Thyre) health education class, Jerri takes Principal Blackman's (Greg Hollimon) advice and heads to the library to watch a film on single motherhood. The film seems to have little impact on Jerri, and after taking the baby home, Jerri nicknames it "Dizzy" when it falls into a laundry basket after being left unattended on top of a dresser. Subsequently learning that her family is housing criminal Cambodian war refugee Kim Luc in their basement, Jerri decides that the baby is cutting in on her social life and abandons Dizzy in the park. Discovering the abandoned infant in the park later that same night, Mr. Noblot (Stephen Colbert) and Mr. Jellineck (Paul Dinello) report the incident to Principal Blackman the following day. In an attempt at resolving the situation, Principal Blackman teams Jerri with Tammi Littlenut (Maria Thayer) despite Coach Wolf's insistence that Jerri learn to be responsible on her own. Quickly assuming the role of the abusive husband, Jerri gives Dizzy to Kim Luc to sell on the black market and books a cheap room at the Horizon Motel in hopes of seducing her new partner, though Tammi tips Principal Blackman off to the rendezvous behind Jerri's back. When Jerri notices Principal Blackman arriving at the motel, she rushes outside and pins the crime on Tammi, causing Principal Blackman to believe Tammi is lying when she reveals all-too-familiar sounding truth. Exhausted after her brief brush with motherhood, Jerri finally learns that it's much easier to be a single mother when you're neither single nor a mother. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The huge success of the video games featuring animated Italian plumbers the Mario Brothers led to this $42 million live action movie. The two brothers (Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo) live in Manhattan and are chasing Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis), who wears a necklace made from a meteor fragment. Its powers can free a race of reptilian creatures from the city's sewers. The villainous ruler of the creatures, who are descendants of dinosaurs, is King Koopa (Dennis Hopper). Koopa has kidnapped Daisy and taken her to the underworld of Dinohattan, which is rat-infested and strewn with garbage. The Mario Brothers must overcome many obstacles, just as they do in video games, to free the princess. The film spares no expense with its use of animatronic monsters and high-tech special effects. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

This made-for-TV film was based on a real-life, nail-biting hostage situation. The incident began when a deranged gunman, disgruntled for a variety of reasons, burst into the maternity ward at the Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah. Holding mothers, babies and nurses captive, the gunman clearly intended to kill as many people as possible before he himself was subdued by the police. Harry Hamlin, light-years away from LA Law, plays the psychotic intruder, while Terri Garr co-stars as the maternity nurse who struggles to act as the voice of reason. Tony award-winning British musical comedy star Robert Lindsay makes his first important American film appearance in Bert Rigby, You're a Fool. Lindsay, of course, plays the title character, a coal miner who dreams of becoming a big showbiz star. Only problem is, there's very little demand for Bert Rigby's impersonations of Buster Keaton and Gene Kelly. Undaunted, Bert heads to Hollywood, where, while working as a butler in the household of movie mogul Jim Shirley (Corbin Bernsen), he must fend off the advances of Shirley's hot-to-trot wife, Meredith (Anne Bancroft). Befitting the old-fashioned nature of Bert Rigby's behavior and tastes in entertainment, director Carl Reiner adopts a "retro" approach to his material; at times, the film looks as though it was made in 1939 rather than 1989, despite its R-rated sex, profanity, and body-function jokes. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A magical jeweled skull makes the wish of 11-year-old Charlie (Fred Savage) come true in this routine but entertaining situation comedy. Charlie wishes he can switch places with his father Marshall (Judge Reinhold), a shallow junior executive of a toy-manufacturing company. Marshall retains his adult form but has the mind of an 11 year old. Charlie still looks 11 but has all the cynical wisdom and experience of his father. The switch provides for many amusing episodes, as father and son try to cope in each other's worlds. Marshall (as Charlie) goes to school while Charlie (as Marshall) tackles the pressures of the corporate boardroom. The film may be called Eddie Macon's Run, but the title character (John Schneider) takes a back seat during most of the proceedings. Most of the footage is devoted to Eddie's chief nemesis, small-town lawman Marzack (Kirk Douglas). Arrested on a trumped-up charge, Eddie breaks out of prison and takes to the road, with Marzack in hot pursuit. The lion's share of the film is a tire-screeching chase through Mexico.
