Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the non-fiction book Flags of Our Fathers concerns the lives of the men in the famous picture of soldiers raising the American flag over Iwo Jima during that historic WWII battle. Battle scenes are intercut with footage of three of the soldiers - played by Ryan Phillipe, Jesse Bradford, and Adam Beach -- who survived the battle going on a goodwill tour of the United States in order to sell war bonds. Many evening they are forced to reenact their famous pose, something each of them finds more and more difficult to do as they suffer from survivor's guilt. Eastwood frames the story by having one of the men's grown son (Tom McCarthy) interview his father's old comrades in order to find out more about what happened to his father. Eastwood followed this film with Letters from Iwo Jima, a second film about the battle of Iwo Jima, but told from the Japanese perspective. Episode ten showcases the writers' ingenious talent to marry each character's personality to a horror-comedy plot twist. Nightmares are coming true in Sunnydale: the self-conscious Xander (Nicholas Brendon) goes to school in his underwear; shy Willow (Alyson Hannigan) has to sing in public; bookish Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) forgets how to read; superficial Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) has a really bad hair day; and sensitive slayer Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) finds that her parents blame her for their divorce. Buffy also has a nightmare that the Master is freed and kills her, making her a vampire. It is finally made clear that the nightmares stem from a boy in a coma. Beaten into that state by his violent baseball coach, the boy's constant dreaming of the horrible incident is being made real through the evil powers of the Hellmouth. It is interesting to note that Buffy has had nightmares from the pilot episode on -- a side effect of her slayer powers -- and this episode seems to build upon that subplot. By having of all the characters face their fears, the seeds are sown for future growth and budding relationships, such as Cordelia's eventual friendship with Buffy. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi

Technology runs amuck when an elite squad of police cyborgs turn on their masters in director Richard Pepin's action-packed sci-fi thriller. The future is now, and in order to minimize human casualties on the dangerous city streets, scientists have created a team lifelike androids that have been specially trained to do man's dirty work. Nicknamed the T-Force, these unstoppable humanoids are frequently sent to capture criminals who wouldn't hesitate to kill a flesh-and-blood cop. When the T-Force goes too far and shoots down a terrorist helicopter with six hostages on board, officials quickly decide to pull the plug on the project. The only problem is, the T-Force doesn't want to be shut down, and they have programmed themselves into extreme self-preservation mode as a precautionary safety measure. Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz '50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned this long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash into the biggest blockbuster of 1978. 1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their "Summer Nights" falling in love, but once fall comes, it's back to Rydell High and its cliques. As one of the bad-boy T-Birds, Danny has to act cool for best pal Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) and their leather-clad mates Sonny (Michael Tucci) and Doody (Barry Pearl, in the role Travolta played on-stage). Despite befriending Frenchy (Didi Conn), one of the rebel Pink Ladies, virginal Sandy is "too pure to be Pink," as the Ladies' leader, Rizzo (Stockard Channing), acidly observes. Declaring their devotion in such ballads as "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sandy," Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding "You're the One That I Want" at the climactic carnival. With Travolta white-hot from Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease soundtrack singles climbed the charts and summer movie crowds poured in. With the presence of Joan Blondell, Eve Arden, Sid Caesar, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, and Frankie Avalon appealing to grown-up memories, Grease became the highest-grossing film of 1978, the highest-grossing movie musical ever, and the third most popular film of the new blockbuster '70s after Star Wars (1977) and Jaws (1975).
