Sara (Jorja Fox) forms an attachment with a young woman who miraculously survived a rape and shooting in a mall parking lot. Meanwhile, Warrick (Gary Dourdan) and Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) are entrusted with the evidence for a murder trial that was collected by a CSI agent who abruptly quit. Making the job more difficult is Catherine's contentious ex-husband, Eddie (Timothy Carhart). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Once again, the CSI unit is challenged by a "signature killer" who stages murders to look like suicide, then deliberately leaves behind frustrating fragments of contrary evidence. All the unit knows is that the killer obviously has a working knowledge of forensic procedure. And on another front, a man who survived when his car went over a cliff still hovers between life and death. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Timothy Carhart makes his first series appearance as Eddie, the ex-husband of CSI member Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger). When Eddie is accused of rape, Catherine risks losing her job by conducting her own investigation. Elsewhere, a cop accused of murder may or may not be exonerated by a missing bullet, and the skeleton of an unidentified female is found encased in cement under a house. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The CSI unit investigates when the naked corpse of a teenaged male is found in the desert -- with no solid evidence pointing to cause of death. The body of a woman recently interred in a cemetery is unceremoniously "relocated" to a dumpster. And when the dean of a private school is murdered, the killer seems to have a logical reason -- if indeed she is the killer. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Otherworldly invaders devise a fiendish new weapon in their bid to conquer the Earth -- attractive women who want to have sex -- in this erotic sci-fi drama for adults. Forrest (Kira Reed) and Preston (Mark Collver) are a pair of FBI agents who investigate paranormal phenomena. Forrest and Preston are assigned to look into the strange case of a group of astronauts who are exhibiting strange behavior after returning from a mission in outer space. The men are quite ill, and the lone woman (Gabriella Hall) is in a state of constant sexual excitement. As it turns out, the lone female astronaut was infected with an alien life form which causes its victims to spawn clones that will do the bidding of the alien leaders. Of course, the alien life force is most easily spread through lovemaking, so the female astronaut soon begins making all sorts of new friends. The Alien Files was originally produced under the title The Sex Files. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Set in the year 2017, Barb Wire takes place after democracy has fallen and a fascist military junta has taken over the U.S. government, plotting to wipe out the country with Red Ribbon, a laboratory-manufactured disease derived from the AIDS virus. The entire test city of Topeka has been annihilated, and only the small bastion of Steel Harbor remains the last free zone in the country, conveniently the home of the title heroine Pamela Lee. Barb, a leather-clad, silicon-stretched motorcycle mama, happens to carry antibodies for Red Ribbon in her DNA, thus making her an enemy of the state. She sets out to defend freedom and take down the evil government by posing as a stripper and seducing foolish male adversaries with her well-displayed assets. The plot thickens as she happens upon her freedom-fighter ex-lover and his wife (much in the vein of Casablanca). ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

This ultra-low-budget horror comedy, released directly to home video, distinguishes itself from its less amusing slasher kin by positioning tongue firmly in cheek and toying with the established conventions of the horror genre -- a device which would later be employed by Wes Craven in the 1996 blockbuster Scream, albeit with Hollywood financial muscle and big-name stars. The premise involves the usual group of obnoxious teens, who spend a weekend at an isolated mountain cabin despite local legends that a hideous monster is lurking in the surrounding woods. As the inevitable bloodbath begins, the group's only salvation comes from a zealous horror-movie buff, who attempts to teach the rapidly dwindling group the proper survival skills by describing the usual fatal errors committed by the average horror victim. Sadly, his directives are heeded too late, as more bad actors become fatally entwined in the seldom-seen monster's rubbery tentacles. Whether or not Craven or Scream writer Kevin Williamson had seen or heard of this film prior to their neo-slasher epic, the jokey excesses of this zero-budget exercise create the impression of a mere throwaway gag, instead of using macabre irony as the engine that drives the plot. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

One of the leading cornet players of the early jazz era of the 1920s, and one of the great jazz innovators, was well-brought-up Midwestern white boy Bix Biederbecke (1903-1931), who just couldn't keep away from what was then often considered to be low-down and trashy music, despite the relentless efforts of his stodgy and oppressively respectable family to keep him at home. Between the conflict caused by his relations with his family and his own difficulties negotiating the sometimes harsh world of the music business (yes, even then) he was a hardcore alcoholic at the height of Prohibition. Some say that cheap, dangerously ill-prepared liquor did him in at the tender age of twenty eight; others contend that he would have died of drink anyway, driven by his internal demons and family conflicts. This Italian-made biographical drama, while it includes much of his extraordinary music, focuses mainly on his conflict with his family. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
