This fact-filled biography of the Russian diplomat Georgi Chicherin was released in 1986 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death. Chicherin, a Russian aristocrat, was jailed in London not long after the 1917 Revolution. Lenin gets him released and puts him in charge of foreign relations for the new USSR. Chicherin soon finds himself in Italy, hobnobbing with the likes of Lloyd George and the King of Italy (quite a contrast to his stay in prison). Involved in the first signing of a peace accord with Germany, Chicherin has to follow orders even if he personally does not agree with the accord. But at the same time, he put all his efforts into obtaining the accord, and in so doing breaks the diplomatic blockade of his now Communist homeland. Chicherin's career unfolds against a tumultuous historical backdrop. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

To make matters worse, Ivanhoe discovers that in his absence, his beloved Rowena married another. Enlisting the help of a band of rebels, including Robin Hood, Ivanhoe attempts to restore Richard's kingdom and once again find true love. In this disaster movie about an overnight express train out of Moscow, a fire starts in one passenger car and quickly spreads, threatening the safety of the travelers. During the first and less successful half of the film, the lives of the passengers in one car are tentatively sketched - an airline flight attendant and a soldier strike up a mutual attraction, a black market operative guards his suitcase full of illegal money, a female conductor presses a relationship with a man she let onto the train for free, and other passengers relate their own hardships or indirectly reveal serious character flaws. During the second and more effective half of the film, disaster strikes, the fire starts, and with the flames coming very close to the actors, it was probably not a long stretch to feign terror or pain. The action scenes are well-executed and compensate for the surface treatment of the characters in the film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Facts is a dramatization of a massacre in a Lithuanian village during World War II when Nazis rounded up over 100 men, women, and children accused of partisan activity and then torched the houses in which they were held. Using Russian interrogations of a few survivors, the testimony of villagers, and some of the Germans responsible for the killing, the film gradually reconstructs the event and its context. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
