The depth of bonding between young Santiago (Juan Diego Botto) and his dying grandfather, as well as his grandfather's foreman Teo, underlies this interesting drama. After Santiago and his family arrive at his grandfather's farm, the elderly gentleman dies but not before telling his grandson a secret. On the one hand, Santiago is the heir to his grandfather's farm, and on the other, he may just have a special relationship to Teo (Alvaro de Luna), his grandfather's foreman. The little boy has a few playmates in his cousins who live on the farm with their parents, and he follows his idol Teo around with a child's admiration for his strength and unique personality. This fictional treatment of an actual incident in Barcelona, Spain involves a man who brutalizes his family and those who work underneath him with no concern for anyone except himself. The story may not be far away from the truth for many families in many countries. Costa (Agustin Gonzalez) is a member of the former right-wing extremists Fuerza Nueva and has built a little empire for himself in the construction and real-estate business. He freely and frequently abuses his wife and four children, and in fact only one daughter is not terrified of him. Costa goes around with a bodyguard -- since even he is aware of the hatred he engenders -- but his ultimate mistake lies in assuming that the victims of his vicious temper may not be quite as weak as the spineless jellyfish he sees in them. The result of his excesses finally culminates in an irreversible act of violence that may -- or may not -- result in court action. Although a little flawed by technical problems with the sound and a somewhat disjointed, episodic telling of the tale, this drama is sure to keep viewers involved in the action.

A soldier in a French prison camp circa spins the yarns of his youth to entertain his follow inmates in this drama from Spanish director Antonio Jose Betancor. As the defeated Spanish Republican army soldiers ponder their circumstances while serving time behind enemy lines, the stories of Jose Garces' (Antonio Canal) childhood, and his love for Valentina (Paloma Gomez), a neighbor girl in his small northeastern Spain community, transport the downbeat soldiers to a happier time. A raucious little rascal who never failed to get into trouble, the smitten youngster beams his declarations of love from the rooftops via semaphore while simultaniously developing a taste for poetry. Despite the trouble he may have caused by killing her father's breeding pigeons, Jose learns what it takes to become a respectable man when his kindly priest and tutor tell him the tales of history's most valiant men. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
