This sequel to the Australian miniseries All the Rivers Run takes place in 1903, as Brenton Edwards (John Waters) continues to pilot the Philadelphia Riverboat around Echuca, one of the biggest port cities in Australia. Edwards makes the acquaintance of Cyrus James (Parker Stevenson), an American relocated to Australia, and soon James becomes his partner in the riverboat business. However, not all goes well for them; after shipping and tourism in Echuca goes into a downturn, Edwards is sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit, and James rallies to keep their business afloat and Brenton's family together as they all search for a way to prove Edwards is innocent. All the Rivers Run 2 was also released in the United States as The Rivers Run: A Journey of Faith and Hope; leading man John Waters is an Australian actor best known for his role in the film Breaker Morant, and is not to be confused with the eccentric American filmmaker of the same name. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This well-made Australian blend of Jaws and Alligator is a tense, action-packed thriller involving a monstrous crocodile, a tough ranger (John Jarratt), and a team of aborigines who worship the monster as the god "Numunwari." This leads to lots of gory clashes with the reptile, interwoven with some interesting tribal lore surrounding the legendary croc and a subplot involving a psychic connection between the beast and one of the aborigines. The climactic battle puts a sympathetic spin on the plight of Numunwari, believed to be the last of his kind -- but his unpleasant habit of snapping people in half makes it a bit difficult to muster up enough empathy for the monster. The inspirational autobiogry of A.B. Facey was the source for the four-part Austalian miniseries A Fortunate Life. Spanning the years from 1897 to 1916, the story began when eight-year-old Bert Facey, abandoned by his widowed mother, was forced to work on a farm run by sadistic horse thieves. After several years of backbreaking manual labor, Bert was given a break when he went to live on the farm owned by the Philips family. Conscripted into the Army at the outbreak of WWII, the hero managed to survive the carnage at Gallipoli, and after additional hardships and setbacks, enjoyed a happily-ever-after as the husband of the beautiful Evelyn, a union that would endure for six decades. Facey's book was published in 1981, one year before his death at age 77. The TV version of A Fortunate Life was telecast by Australia's Nine Network in 1985. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This WW II musical is set in Australia and chronicles the exploits of a nightclub singer and the young Marine who loves her. She works in a Quonset hut turned into a saloon and helps stage shows for battle-weary troops returning from the South Seas. After one performance she holds a small party in her apartment and there meets the Marine sergeant who has just sailed in from Guadalcanal. Although she is married and awaiting the return of her husband, who is also at war, he decides to pursue her. Later she learns that her husband has been killed.
