Left at a loss as to what measures must be taken in order to save their crumbling society, the Danish government enacts martial law and begins systematically executing tax evaders, welfare abusers, and various other inexpedient citizens in director Anders Ronnow Klarlund's blackly comic satire. The time is the not-too-distant future, and the "New Copenhagen Criteria" has finally been enacted. A government mandated system in which any citizen deemed a drain on the state is classified as expendable has found a large collection of potential deadbeats rounded up for questioning in a make-shift Guantanamo Bay-style prison camp constructed on the site of a commandeered elementary school. Their interrogator: Major Christian Andersson (Søren Pilmark), a ruthless judge, jury, and executioner whose activities are monitored by wishy-washy Parliament representative Folke (Soren Fauli). After forcing a false confession from artist-turned-bureaucrat (Tommy Kenter) and then putting a bullet in his head, Major Andersson finds his trigger-happy ways thwarted by the very woman who drafted the disastrous criteria. Though currently being detained in the schoolyard and awaiting judgment, suspected welfare abuser Belinda (Louise Mieritz) is actually former civil servant Sidse, the mastermind of the "New Copenhagen Criteria." Aghast at what has become of her well-intending plan, Sidse soon aligns herself with a fearless group of rebels while coaching her fellow detainees in implementing a legal loophole that may just help them escape execution. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Drawing inspiration from famed Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 sci-fi classic Stalker, director/co-screenwriter Christoffer Boe's heady tale of love and memory follows an acclaimed Danish pianist as he sets out to a mysterious area known only as "The Zone" in hopes of reclaiming his memories and reconnecting with his past. Zetterstrom (Ulrich Thomsen) is a pianist who has sacrificed human emotion in order to achieve perfection. Though many years have passed since Zetterstrom left his native Copenhagen to live in New York, he is now drawn back to his birthplace in order to take part in a gala concert. Upon arriving in Copenhagen, Zetterstrom is contacted by a messenger from an off-limits area of the city known only as "The Zone" and offered an opportunity to remember his long forgotten love for the beautiful Andrea (Helena Christensen). Yet while "The Zone" can indeed resurrect the memories of the past, Zetterstrom will soon discover that there are limits to what one can accomplish by visiting this mysterious and magical landscape. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

At a pace faster than a speeding bullet or flying cream pie, this farce is about two men -- hunk Walter (Ole Stephensen) of the dim bulb, and slapstick shoe repairman Carlo (Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen). Straight out of Danish television, the two characters are already stereotyped as they set off through exotic Spain on a package tour. Instead of the usual treks through museums, historic sites, and restaurants, there are encounters with diamond smugglers, thugs, and the requisite pretty women. Between Carlo's jabber and Walter's befuddled views, the duo are hard-pressed to woo and win. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

This farce, tinged by social commentary, begins when a worker named Age (Nesper Christensen) is dumped by his girlfriend Else (Ulla Henningsen) for the death of their sex life, killed off by Age's overwork and exhaustion. Else also evicts his buddy Viggo (Tommy Kenter) from the living quarters that had been shared by the three of them. On the heels of that indignity, the two homeless friends lose their jobs at the factory where they both work, and then find themselves trying to escape a fate worse than death as the subjects of an experiment by an evil industrialist and his like-minded daughter. Eventually, life takes a turn for the better as they escape the unknown terrors planned by the menacing father-daughter duo. Age's exploits are interspersed or sometimes highlighted by Viggo's sax performances (by JesperThilo, an accomplished tenor saxaphonist), one of the better features of the film. The work of Hans Kristensen as a writer and director, with Hans Hansen as a cowriter, although known for its social commentary, cedes stage center to farcical humor here - for better or worse. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
