Jessica (Angela Lansbury) heads to a fashionable desert resort for a reunion with her college roommate Peggy (Piper Laurie). Unfortunately, the happiness of the occasion is compromised by the presence of Peggy's ex-husband, nasty showbiz star Johnny Shannon (Ed Ames. In fact, Johnny has made so many enemies that he has equipped his desert home with a wide variety of state-of-the-art security devices, just in case someone should want to murder him. Of course, someone does...and that someone is able to bypass the "infallible" security system with the greatest of ease. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Originally titled Stories from the Bible, Greatest Heroes of the Bible was designed as a seven-part TV miniseries; evidently the specter of low ratings forced the network execs to telescope the presentation into four installments. The series began with the story of David (Roger Kern) and Goliath (Ted Cassidy). Next we were offered the tale of Samson (John Beck) and Delilah (Ann Turkel). The Flood was next on the agenda, with Lew Ayres as Noah. This was followed by Joshua (Robert Culp) at the walls of Jericho. Moses (John Marley) was the central character in the next chapter, followed by Solomon (Tom Hallick) and Bathsheba (Carol Lawrence). The story of Joseph (Sam Bottoms) and his Brethren rounded out the presentation. While other miniseries prided themselves on being lensed in Europe and the Mid-East, Greatest Stories of the Bible declared itself as an "All American Production;" for example, Canyon City, Utah, stood in for Jericho. This miniseries was telecast November 19, 20, 21 and 22, 1978. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
This video is part of a series on some of the most remarkable figures in the stories of the Bible. This episode tells the Old Testament story of Abraham. Abraham was a faithful servant of God. He was blessed late in life with a son, Isaac. God decided to test Abraham's faith by directing the man to offer his beloved son as a sacrifice. Just before the father brought down the blade on his son, an angel of God intervened: Abraham had passed the test of faith. The video presents the story through a re-enactment set in the Holy Land. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi
A pre-Starsky and Hutch Paul Michael Glaser plays a mysterious drifter in The Impersonation Murder Case. A wealthy man has been murdered, and Glaser is the prime suspect. Evidence suggests that Glaser is the dead man's long-lost son-an allegation he hotly denies, and understandably so, since this bit of information could well put a noose around his neck. Detective Ed Ames does his best to separate fact from fancy. Kim Hunter and Arlene Golonka also star in this videotaped 90-minute drama. The Impersonation Murder Case was first telecast April 15, 1975, on the latenight anthology The ABC Wide World of Mystery. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
In this sci-fi entry from the Starlost TV series, members of the crew find themselves captured and imprisoned by a mad ruler in an intergalactic dome on an Earthship Ark. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
John Wayne and Kirk Douglas spend half of The War Wagon trying to knock one another off and the other half working shoulder to shoulder. Settling an old score with avaricious mine owner Bruce Cabot, Wayne plans to steal a $500,000 gold shipment from his enemy. Douglas, at first hired by Cabot to kill Wayne, goes along with the robbery scheme. Also in on the plan is Howard Keel, superbly cast as a world-weary, wisecracking Native American (it's the sort of part that nowadays would go to Graham Greene). The titular war wagon is the armor-plated, Gatling-gun fortified stagecoach wherein Cabot's gold is transported. Thus the stage is set for a slam-bang finale, and director Burt Kennedy isn't about to disappoint the viewers. Best bit: after Kirk and The Duke gun down Cabot's henchmen Bruce Dern and Chuck Roberson, Douglas quips "Mine hit the ground first"--whereupon Wayne replies "Mine was taller." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
