This future dystopia tale is set in what remains of the U.S.A. 900 years after a nuclear war. People have banded into clans, where women fight and win control over a region while men are held as slaves and divided into functional groups, such as laborers, servants, or those who father children. When the leader of the dominant female clan dies, there is a dispute over her vacated position; two sisters vie for the honor and are challenged by the leader of a another clan. This three part film begins with "Trap", a neurotic sadist sets traps all over his house and invites two female burglars to visit. In the macabre "Marie and the Priest", a priest kills a woman he has impregnated and removes the fetus before baptizing then killing it. The horrifying story is based on an actual incident. Part three is "The River of Diamonds", where an amoral young woman preys on young men in a symbolic display of her independence. In this thriller, a veterinarian falls in love with an ex-African explorer after he comes to help her ailing cheetah. She begs him to return to Africa with her, but he doesn't want to leave his wife. Soon his wife finds herself plagued by a series of bizarre accidents. The vet blames the explorer who has a great knowledge of voodoo. To spare his wife from further curses, he agrees to go to Africa with the woman. While in the wilderness, a flash flood engulfs them and the woman is swept away. Though the vet could save her, he decides not to. Later, the wife confesses that she was responsible for the accidents. By all accounts a serious cultural innovator, Pierre Henry revolutionized the concept of "music" (much as John Cage would do in the years to follow) by defying expectations of melody and rhythm, and simply taping extraneous sounds from the world outside of the recording studio that he edited into compositions such as Symphonie pour un homme seul and Messe pour le temps present. As a result, he influenced avant-garde musicians the world over and contemporary DJs as well. With their documentary Pierre Henry: The Art of Sounds, directors Franck Mallet and Eric Darmon follow Henry on one such adventure, as he searches for the "perfect" sound in Paris's Coulée Verte. That footage is then intercut with vintage archival clips of audience members leaving the debut performance of Henry's classic Concert couché, and offering their initial reactions. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
Boondock Saints, the 2000 crime picture renowned for the unique story of the fast rise and fall of its egomaniacal filmmaker, Troy Duffy, as well as the cult following that appeared later on home release, gets the sequel treatment with this follow-up. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus reunite as the vigilante MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly returning as Il Duce.
