Season Two of Overhaulin' offers 15 new episodes wherein host Courtney Hansen and famed hot-rod reconditioner Chip Foose uses a variety of scams and subterfuges to "steal" old cars and completely renovate them--to their delight of their owners, of course. In the season opener, the cars given the makeover are a 1968 Chevelle and a 1998 Mazda, owned by twin sisters. Later, a man who's never had the time or money to fix up his classic 1952 GMC is the willing "victim" of Foose's crack renovation team. Also, a motorist who thinks he's lost his 1970 Mustang while gambling soon learns that he's lost nothing and gained plenty; a woman despairs when her rusty 1967 Nova is towed away--until she sees what's done with it during its "impoundment"; and in the season finale, we're treated to another double-headed, as a 1964 Corvette and a vintage VW are rescued from the junk-heap. This season's obligatory "celebrity" episode finds Sheryl Crow conspiring with the producers to flim-flam Lance Armstrong out of his 1970 GTO, again for the purposes of transforming his venerable clunker into a "dream machine"! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Host Courtney Hansen and famed hot-rod reconditioner Chip Foose uses a variety of clever ploys and scams to "steal" old cars and completely renovate them to their delight of their owners in Season One of Overhaulin'. In the debut episode, a high-schooler's hand-me-down 1988 Chevy pickup is magnificently restored--after it is "impounded" for parking tickets that the poor kid never knew he had. Subsequent installments include "Museum Worthy", essentially a guided tour of LA's Petersen Automotive Museum; "Surfer Kid", wherein the title character's 1977 El Camino is given "the works"; and "School's Out", focusing on the salvation of a rusty old 1958 Bel Air. In addition, at least one celebrity is "tricked" and his car "tricked out": Ian Ziering, who is pleasantly shocked when his 1968 Camaro is dolled up and slicked down! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Set in 1940s England, Distant Voices/Still Lives is a compassionate look at a radically dysfunctional family. The son and his mother must endure the casual and overt cruelties of the bull-necked father. The ongoing abuse takes its toll in the form of failed marriages and misguided attempts at seeking security outside the family unit. As was the case with his earlier short subject trilogy (The Children, Madonna and Child, Death and Transfiguration), director Terence Davies based much of the material on his own life, combining rheumy-eyed cynicism with soft-edged nostalgia (the musical track, drawn from popular wartime songs, is particularly evocative). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
