Two terminal cancer patients break out of the hospital in a final attempt to enjoy their last days in this black comedy drama. Decker (Anthony Edwards) is an American ex-football player resigned to die. Bancroft (Timothy Dalton) is an attorney who is more optimistic and talks Decker into a journey to a Dutch whorehouse for a final fling. The unlikely duo steal an ambulance and head for Holland. They make a stop at the wedding of Bancroft's former flame -- who abandoned him with his terminal illness. Decker and Bancroft come across two women with car trouble, Maureen (Camille Coduri) and Hazel (Janet McTeer). Maureen and Decker immediately hit it off, but Bancroft considers the meeting an interruption of their quest. The women are unaware the two men are dying, and the men have no way of knowing Hazel is pregnant. The famous "lost" Doctor Who adventure "Shada" was to have aired in six episodes from January 18 to February 23, 1980, but was never completed due to a BBC strike. In 1992, the existing scenes (mostly "location" footage) were edited together into a two-hour continuity for home video, with the Doctor (Tom Baker) providing linking narration. What emerged was a story concerning a book called "The Ancient Law of Gallifrey," which arouses the interest of the mind-draining Skagra (Christopher Neame), and also the infamous Time Lord outlaw Salyavin (Denis Carey). The title refers to the planet where the story comes to an explosive climax. "Shada" was written by Douglas Adams. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The autobiography of British prison-escapee John McVicar is given a no-frills screen treatment herein. Roger Daltrey, lead singer of the Who, plays McVicar, who after breaking out of prison reestablishes himself in London's seamy underworld. Another British singing star, Adam Faith, is second-billed as Probyn. Needless to say, McVicar contains quite a few songs--more than your usual gangster meller, anyway. Unfortunately, Atrios is locked in deadly combat with its twin planet Zeos -- and the Doctor and Romana are caught in the middle of the fray, along with the fiercely proud and determined Princess Astra (Lalla Ward).
