The eight-episode Australian seriocomedy Bad Cop, Bad Cop used police corruption as a target for savage satire. The series took place in a fictional Sydney suburb, where plainclothes cops Lilywhere (Michael Caton) and Knutt (Daniel Wylie) held sway over both the local citizenry and their fellow peacekeepers. Ever looking out for themselves, Lilywhite and Knutt were more interested in financial perks and creature comforts than in rounding up criminals. And besides, some of their best friends were on the wrong side of the law. Created by Ian David, Bad Cop, Bad Cop was seen on Australia's ABC network in early 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The rest of the characters were stuffed animals, played by puppets and voiced by professional actors. Johnson and Friends was originally broadcast in 1994. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The checkered career of a man who has for years pulled off an imposture of being a dentist, despite his disastrous record with patients, is at the center of this offbeat comedy. "Doctor" Gordon Fairweather (Greig Pickhaver) has skipped town just ahead of the British police, who would love to get their hands on him. His story is told by his most loyal patient's daughter Vanessa (Jacqueline McKenzie), who worked as his nurse and wanted to marry him, and by his much-abused patient and potential father-in-law George Prestcott (Patrick Blackwell), who eventually had a mouth only a (real) dentist could love. It seems that Fairweather started out in Australia and had a bit of mental trouble before he struck out for Britain. It is amusing to note that the director of this movie, Chris Kennedy, is himself a former dentist. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

- Jacqueline McKenzie, Maggie King, (more)

In this docudrama, a couple going through an acrimonious divorce after twelve years of marriage are going through custody hearings in Australia's Family Law Courts. All the officials and judges play themselves, but the family members are actors. Things grow especially heated when the husband, who has been kicked out of home because his wife wants to start seeing other men, discovers that his son has been getting into trouble for stealing and hasn't been attending school regularly. When the judge finally announces his decision, its awkwardness, fairness and appropriateness are reportedly quite startling -- making clear the reasons for a rash of Family Court judge slayings that took place around the time this film was made. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

- Judith Stratford, Peter Browne, (more)
Angela Lansbury once again essays the dual role of Maine-based mystery writer Jessica Fletcher and her colorful cousin, British music-hall headliner Emma MacGill. This time around, Emma is suspected of murder when her fiancé, Viscount Geoffrey Constable (Richard Johnson) expires after consuming some poisoned herring. With the same cunning and finesse as cousin Jessica, Emma turns sleuth to clear her name and expose the guilty party. The episode is highlighted by Angela Lansbury's rendition of Jerome Kern's rousing ditty "Spoon With Me", which the actress had previously performed (with a dubbed voice!) in the 1946 theatrical film Till the Clouds Roll By". ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
PJ (Angelo D'Angelo), and Goose (James Lugton) are bored Australian BMX riders whose bikes have been totaled. Setting off on an intended fishing trip with their friend Judy (Nicole Kidman), they stumble instead upon a cache of stolen police walkie-talkies, which they decide to sell for new BMX gear. Unfortunately, the radios had orginally been swiped by a murderous gang of bank robbers, with whom they soon become entangled. With no more of a plot peg than this, BMX Bandits turns into a movie-long chase. It's nonthink entertainment, true, but the biking scenes are expertly photographed and edited, so you'll be more than happy to go along for the ride. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
