In some European colonies, the governing country might have been relatively lackadaisical about resistance movements and independence movements, unless they surfaced in active rebellion. This was certainly true of the British in India. However, in the nearby island of Madagascar, the ruling French kept a tight lid on everything. In either case, the end result was the same, as it proved unprofitable to continue holding on to these colonies. This movie, made by a French-trained native of Madagascar, portrays some episodes from the rebellions which led to that country's independence. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
