Set in 1984, Ulf Malmros' comedy God Save the King tells the tale of a misfit teenager with dreams of being in a punk rock band. Josefin Nelden plays Abra, a young woman obsessed with punk music. Her attitude and tastes make her an outsider in her provincial hometown, so when a punk group comes through town on a tour she runs away with them. Swedish filmmaker Mikael Hafstrom directs the coming-of-age drama Ondskan (Evil), based on the autobiographical novel by Jan Guillou. In the mid-'50s, teenager Erik Ponti (Andreas Wilson) suffers serious abuse at the hands of his father (Johan Rabaeus). He translates the violence at home to school, eventually getting himself expelled for fighting. His mother (Marie Richardson) struggles to come up with the money to send him to a private school, where the senior boys brutally haze the juniors in a ritualistic tradition. Erik makes enemies with senior Otto Silverheim (Gustaf Skarsgård), but, fortunately, finds friendship with Pierre (Henrik Lundstrom) and romance with Marja (Linda Zilliacus). Christian Eklow and Christopher Panov's romantic comedy The Dog Trick stars Linus Wahlgren. Simon (Wahlgren) is a single man in his late twenties who spends much of his free time watching Hollywood romantic comedies. His friend Micke (Alexander Skarsgård) suggests that if Simon goes to the park and stands near a cute dog he will attract women. The plan seems to work perfectly when he strikes up a relationship with Mia (Josephine Bornebusch), but maybe not for the reasons he and his friend thought it would. Ulf Malmros directs this warm comedy-drama about four loners learning to love again. A pair of young orphans, Marten (Anastasios Soulis) and Annika (Rebecka Scheja journey to a small village during the summer of 1958 to stay with crusty middle-aged Yngve (Kjell Bergqvist), who works both as a farmer and an undertaker. Though gruff and often grumpy, the two kids soon realize that Yngve still has a lot of love to give, and they set out to help him meet a woman. They happen upon Miss Svanstrom (Cecilia Nilsson), and before long Yngve and Miss Svanstrom are an item. In this first filmed episode, after an American tourist is mysteriously killed and tossed off a tour boat, the local police are baffled by the lack of clues. Enter Martin Beck who finally finds a clue and then sets a trap for the killer. This is the fourth in a series of films based on the police detective novels of Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo. In this story, the police only have one witness to a series of crimes which have electrified the country, the rape and murder of a number of beautiful young women. Unfortunately, the witness is not terribly willing to come forward to assist the police since he is wanted in conjuction with the violent robberies he has committed. Peter is a Swedish soldier, absent without leave after discovering his girlfriend's unfaithfulness to him. He is traveling south to Stockholm from the north of Sweden, possibly to confront his girlfriend, possibly to return to his post. He meets Hanna and her father along the way and travels with them. Hanna and her father had been separated for a long time and are enjoying a reunion. In this Swedish comedy, Felix wants to transcend his limitations completely. To that end, he leaves his country home and enrolls in training as a fireman's apprentice. If all goes well, not only will he overcome his fear of heights, but also his fear of dangers of all kinds. Alas, things do not go well, and he is dismissed. Felix does show courage, however, when he talks his father out of a suicide attempt. Then for some reason, the boy chooses to steal an ambulance: he plans to try his hand at taking a patient to a hospital, somewhere, sometime.
