This mellow comedy is the third entry in filmmaker Anja Breien's "Wives" series and stars the same three actresses who appeared in the first two. This episodic film begins with flashbacks to the 1975 film Wives in which the trio were having lively debates of marriage vs. Free love and scenes from 1985's Wives: Ten Years Later where all three coped with the realities of aging. Now ten more years have passed and they are comfortably ensconced in middle age. They have gathered to hold a surprise birthday aboard an Oslo streetcar. They party is for Katja. The three haven't seen each other in ages and much of the story focuses on their discussions of their disparate lives. Every word, smile and tear they share affirms the depth of their lasting friendship. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
In this slapstick comedy, a bride and her groom and all their wedding guests become the victims of a swindle by the bride's father. He has had a bunch of copies made of some very valuable paintings, and has hidden the real ones away. These paintings are heavily insured, and he wants to have the fakes stolen so that he can pocket the insurance money - and still have the paintings. Needless to say, the wedding doesn't go particularly smoothly, and this all-star Norwegian cast runs around trying to find out what all the commotion is about. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

A mix of racial and ethnic prejudices as well as old-fashioned blackmail pit two couples against each other in this crime story from director Gianni Lepre. Bashir (Amjad Munir works in a low-level job in the kitchen of a restaurant that is not doing very well. One day he sees the owner of the restaurant deliberately setting it ablaze to collect needed financing from the insurance company. Bashir passes this interesting piece of knowledge onto his girlfriend Anne (Froydis Armand), a woman deeply in need of money herself if she wants to hang onto her house. Her brain may be soaked in alcohol on a regular basis, but Anne quickly realizes that the restaurant owner could be a gold mine to Bashir and herself. So she taunts and nags until Bashir does the deed, he lets the owner know what he wants. In response, the owner's wife (Torill Oyen) goads her husband into getting back at the would-be blackmailers in an escalating conflict in which someone has to lose.

Three married women gather to spend Christmas Eve in Olso and then retire to a posh hotel in southern Sweden where they engage in the same kind of conversations, wishful thinking, and petty arguments that characterized the comedy Wives in 1976. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Henry's (Svein Sturla Hungnes) life as a barber is uneventful until his daughter is found dead near the watermill, her drowning apparently a suicide. Henry finds out differently -- she was murdered by a pimp and drug dealer -- and Henry's desire for revenge is fanned to a red-hot intensity. He teams up with Tom (Roy Hansen), a throwback to the wilder lifestyles of the '60s, and through thick and thin, the odd couple manages to track down and trap the killer. By now Henry has no intention of turning his captive over to the police and instead ties him up in a barber chair in his back room to watch him squirm. Tom does not like this turn of events, and he and Henry disagree over what course of action to follow -- not a good start for a successful prosecution of the fellow in the chair, who is definitely not waiting around for a haircut. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

akaNo one does very well in this downbeat drama. Nils (Nils Sletta) is a moody tenor sax player who is apparently expressing himself through his music, which does not say much. His main concern is himself, and that gets in the way of his relationship with Elin (Sigrid Huun), a hardcore drug addict trying to fight off her habit. Nils' friend Christian (Froydis Armand) has his own problems coping with his marriage and his dual jobs as a photographer in advertising and pornography. All three are rapidly heading toward their own personal crises. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
