Every year, Ghunuram takes time off from his job to prepare for and appear in a folk dance in his village. His special part of the performance is called the Tiger Dance. This year is special, too; he hopes to become engaged to the daughter of his fellow performer. When all is in readiness, he and his fellows expect that the villagers will be at least as enraptured as before. Instead, they spare the dancers almost no attention. A circus with a newly captured leopard has come into town. What's worse, the woman Ghunuram had hoped to woo has gone gaga over a circus performer. Not to be outdone, he prepares for a last, tragic, performance in which the tiger meets the leopard. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

There are number of major languages which have official recognition and support from the Government of India, and Telugu, spoken in the central part of that country, is one of them. The story focuses on the nearly unbelievable suffering of Kamalakshi (Archana), a "bonded" woman in 1920s India. She has been sold by her family (for a humiliatingly tiny sum) to be the servant of a wealthy couple. Not only is she expected to pamper these awful people and do every chore imaginable, but she is required to be the sexual toy of the man of the house and anyone he "loans" her to - anywhere, and anytime of the day or night. When she becomes pregnant from all the couplings she endures, she hopes to keep the baby, but is forced (as a person with no rights to anything whatever) to have an abortion. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This Indian sexual drama is based upon Theyyam, a traditional folk dance that pays tribute to heroes who have transformed into gods. The film begins as a man living in a rural village commits suicide. After the credits, an enigmatic and beautiful woman dressed in a seductive yellow sari wanders into town looking for her uncle (the suicide). She doesn't know that he is dead. She then begins living in his house and getting involved with different village men. Her first lover is the manly Chandu, a married man. She then sleeps with his friend Chindan, a man from a lower caste. The two fight over her and Chindan loses an ear. She soon grows tired of Chindan and makes love to a peddler, Ummini. Meanwhile, Ambu, a young boy with a crush upon her, quietly observes it all. When the volatile Chandu embarks upon another vengeful rage, it is poor, innocent Ambu who becomes his victim. Not long afterward, the strange woman leaves the town as quietly as she came. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Set in the lush state of Kerala in India, this slowly paced drama explores the relationship between an old man and his son, who is studying engineering in the state capital of Raghu. As the film opens, he is expecting his son to arrive home by bus from school. He goes to the bus stop filled with eager anticipation, but the bus arrives and his son isn't on it. This ritual is repeated day after day. Even after he begins to lose hope he continues faithfully to go to the bus stop and wait. His wife and daughter plead with him not to keep doing this. Eventually, he and his daughter travel to the capital to try to learn what happened to the boy. It turns out that he made the mistake of singing a political protest song. The boy's friends think he has been killed by the police, but we never find out for sure. In the end, the old man goes mad, mercifully, since he is able to believe that his son has returned. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

A soft-spoken and cynical workaholic doctor crosses paths with an outgoing and boisterous female singer in director Tanuja Chandra's alternately hilarious and moving meditation on the true nature of love, and the manner in which opposites always seem to attract. Dr. Suraj Rihan (Shiney Ahuja) is all work and no play, but when he meets the fun-loving Kria (Sushmita Sen) one night in the hospital, there's just no denying the pathologically friendly girl's infectiously joyous outlook on life. Her family is equally as colorful, too. Kria isn't the kind of girl to take "no" for an answer, so when she invites the shy doctor over to meet the whole gang, he reluctantly agrees. Suddenly transformed by such a lively group, Dr. Rihan soon finds himself falling deeply in love with the dynamic Kria. Though the feelings are indeed mutual, it isn't long before the transformed doctor and the lively singer find themselves faced with the biggest crisis either has ever encountered. Will their burgeoning love prove strong enough to keep the pair together even in their darkest hour and will the powerful bond that they have formed provide each with the strength and support needed to brave the coming storm? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
