Four years after Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Ralph Bakshi tapped into the live action mixed with cell animated world in this adult-themed production telling the story of an edgy comic book artist who crosses the line into his own cartoon universe. The story begins with a prologue in postwar Las Vegas, where Vegas cop Frank Harris (Brad Pitt) is catapulted into the cartoon Cool World after crashing his motorcycle. The Cool World is a jive-animated parallel dimension created by animator Jack Deebs (Gabriel Byrne). Among Jack's many creations is the knock-out broad Holli Would (Kim Basinger). Holli wants to become human -- or a "noid" in Cool World parlance. So, she compels Jack to fall into his own cartoon void where her attempts to seduce him could have grave consequences for both the animated and the "real" world. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

The star of this animated 23-minute version of Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper is Mickey Mouse...and Mickey Mouse. The bare bones of Twain's mistaken-identity plotline are adhered to, with several delightful slapstick sidetrips along the way. Supporting Mr. Mouse are such Disney stalwarts as Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Black Pete (as the villain, natch.) The film is a delightful hark back to such Disney cartoons of yore as Brave Little Tailor (1938) and Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947), though there are plenty of contemporary references to keep a 1990s audience happy. When originally released to threatres before The Rescuers Down Under, The Prince and the Pauper included a "count-down" clock to bridge the intermission time between the cartoon and the main feature. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Join Alvin, Simon, and Theodore as they graduate from their weekly TV adventures to the big screen in the exciting, feature-length animated tale The Chipmunk Adventure. The three boys use a clever scheme with a tape recorder to trick their babysitter, Rebecca Miller, into letting them out of the house. The Chipmunks con the woman into believing that David Seville has granted them permission to set off on a trek around the world, in pursuit of the diamond smugglers Claudia and Claus. Of course, the boys make a point to solicit help from their female friends, The Chipettes, who excitedly agree to tag along on this globe-charting odyssey. A musical to boot, The Chipmunk Adventure features the boys singing such numbers as "Diamond Dolls," and the rollicking and rousing "Woolly Bully."The Chipettes join in as well, with the memorable tune "The Girls of Rock 'n' Roll." ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Joseph Saneth produced this obscure silent western in which troubled star Art Acord plays a cowboy who must fight a former friend (Jack Richardson), now an alcoholic outlaw. Basically a preachment against the devil hop, Looped for Life ironically starred an actor whose life, marriages and, eventually, career were ruined by alcoholism. ~ Hans J.
