A man trying to run away from a personal tragedy finds out the hard way how much one of his best friends has changed in this action drama. In 2003, Lau Ching-hei (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Bong (Takeshi Kaneshiro) are a pair of police detectives who are both partners and close pals. While Bong respects Lau's abilities as a detective, he's wary of his friend's uncertain temper, and he has enough problems of his own to deal with after the suicide of his long-time girlfriend. Three years later, Bong has left the force to become a private investigator and has developed a serious drinking problem, while Lau is one of the top detectives with the Hong Kong police and has married Susan (Xu Jinglei), a respected reporter. Susan and Lau approach Bong and ask him for help with a case -- Susan's father Chow (Yueh Hua) was murdered, and while the team investigating the crime has found two of the men responsible, a third culprit is still at large. Bong agrees to help, but what he and Susan don't know is that Lau is the missing man who helped kill Chow, and he's playing an elaborate game of cat and mouse with his fellow police officers as well as his best friend. Also featuring Shu Qi, Emme Wong and Chapman To, Seung Sing (aka Confession Of Pain) was directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak and written by Mak and Felix Chong, the same team responsible for the international hit Infernal Affairs. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Despite its stand-alone title, this mixture of martial arts and exploitation is a semi-sequel to Shaw Brothers's Flying Guillotine series. This time, the focus is Rong Qui-yan (Chen Ping), a kung fu student turned dutiful wife whose life falls apart when her husband is murdered by a squad of government operatives led by the duplicitous Jin Gang-Feng (Lo Lieh). Qui-yan is forced to go into hiding as she plots her revenge and finds allies in fellow fugitive Ma Seng (Tsui Siu Keung) and ex-lover Wang-jun (Yueh Hua). Meanwhile, Jin Gang-Feng sends out an array of killers to track them down. Complicating things further is the fact that Qui-yan is pregnant and struggling to keep her unborn child safe while fighting her way to safety. The Vengeful Beauty was directed by Ho Meng-hua, who directed the first Flying Guillotine film. Shaw Brothers fans will be interested to note that this film reuses footage of several beheading scenes and other special effects from The Flying Guillotine. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide

Don't look for Moe, Larry and Curly (nor even Shemp or Joe Besser) in The Italian-Chinese The Three Stooges vs. the Wonder Woman. The terrible trio in this film is played by Yueh Hua, Nick Jordan and Mark Hannibal. These "stooges" are slapstick-prone warriors who do battle against an Amazonian high priestess (May May Wong) and her buxom followers. Not only is the title misleading, but so are the production credits: the "Al Bradley" listed as director is really Alfonso Brescia. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The governor's son, on government business, is hijacked on the road and kidnapped by a ruthless gang of thugs who hold him as a hostage, demanding their leader's release from prison. The governor sends the legendary Golden Swallow (Cheng Pei-Pei) to rescue him. Golden Swallow arrives in town disguised as a man, and soon meets up with members of the gang in a local pub. She orders them to surrender. They refuse, and test her, throwing various objects at her, which she calmly deflects, before mounting a full-scale attack. As they fight, Drunken Cat (Yueh Hua), a kung fu master disguised as a beggar, enters the pub and looks on amusedly. Soon the two join forces to rescue the governor's son, and to defeat the wicked monk who aids the gang, and who learned his skills from the same master who taught Drunken Cat. Legendary Hong Kong action director King Hu (Swordsman) made Come Drink With Me for the Shaw brothers in 1966. Come Drink With Me was one of the classic Hong Kong kung fu films that inspired Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and it contains many of the same elements from that film, including gender confusion, a stolen mystical weapon, and a wall-climbing woman warrior played by Pei-Pei, whom Ang Lee would cast as the villainous Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
