Stanley Lupino, a member in good standing of the ancient British performing family which also produced comedian Lupino Lane and actress Ida Lupino (Stanley's daughter), is the author and one of the stars of Over She Goes. John Wood portrays an ex-musical hall performer who becomes a British lord. He finds it difficult to properly enter society, especially when threatened with blackmail by a woman from his past. Wood calls upon his old vaudeville cronies to get him out of his jam. Over She Goes is enlivened by comic turns from such veteran British stage clowns as Laddie Cliff, Syd Walker and (of course) Stanley Lupino. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The inspired buffoonery of British music hall clowns Stanley Lupino and Laddie Cliff keeps this "quota quickie" on track. The stars play Percy and Peter Brace, two cheeky chappies who haven't a penny between them. Their sole asset is a jointly owned racehorse, but this may be lost to the Brace boys' creditors before the all-important English Derby at Epsom. Our heroes pretend that the nag has been kidnapped, hoping to extract "ransom" money from a wealthy aunt. But she won't hand over the dough until she's been assured that Percy and Peter have been married to women of culture and breeding (complicated, ain't it?) The tangled web of deception threatens to choke the boys, but all turns out well in the climactic Derby race. Sporting Love was based on a play by co-star Stanley Lupino (Ida's father, by the way). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Too expensive for a "quota quickie" but not quite costly enough to qualify as an "A" picture, Happy is a shapeless but generally satisfying vehicle for several of England's top music-hall attractions. Stanley Lupino (Ida's dad) and Laddie Cliff star as Frank and George, a pair of nightclub musicians living in an attic owned by irascible Scotsman Simmy (Will Fyffe). Hoping to get rich quick, Frank invents a device that, when attached to an automobile, will immediately alert the police if the car is stolen. A millionaire car manufacturer is interested in the device, but agrees to purchase it only after his pretty daughter falls in love with Frank. Balking at the idea of marrying the girl for her money and influence, Frank nearly throws away his chance for true happiness, but it's all smiles and happy songs at the end. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
