One day the horrible Prince of Darkness shows up and begins scaring the daylights out of the commoners. Prince Charming and his troops gallop off to stop him, but they are captured, leaving brave Snow White to come to his rescue. Unfortunately, she too is caught. She has transformed her personal guard into super-strong warriors -- each nearly a match for Hercules, put Androcles under her spell, and inflicted terrible wounds on her people, all in preparation for her plan to conquer the world. Hercules finds that her power stems from a source older than the gods on Olympus, one over which he has virtually no power. Rod Flash is the star of Ali Baba and the Sacred Crown, and we don't believe that name for a minute. However, Rod does moves quick as a flash to locate the titular crown on behalf of a beneficent Genie. To do this, however, he must go the Hercules route and perform seven near-impossible tasks. He is rescued from the most ungovernable of these tasks by heroine Bella Cortez, who soon needs rescuing herself from the film's despotic villain, Furio Meniconi. Released not long before a much more spectacular Cleopatra came along to make Elizabeth Taylor even more famous, this routine drama by Vittorio Cottafavi, a director who favors historical epics, is no competition. The prelude to Cleopatra's demise is the main focus of attention, but in this drama Mark Antony's presence is usurped by the Roman envoy Curridius (Ettore Manni). Curridius travels all the way from Rome to warn Antony that the powers-that-be are not thrilled with his behavior. Along the way, he faces one danger after another and then encounters Cleopatra (Linda Cristal) to make it all seem worth the effort.
