Patricia (Mijanou Bardot) is a wealthy party girl who is bored with her jet-set lifestyle and friends. She gets in her car and drives off into the mountains in search of a new thrill. When two men wreck and burn her car, she joins them in their mountaineering life. She sleeps with one man, but jealousy ensues and she leaves for swinging London town with the other man. La Collectionneuse is the third of director Eric Rohmer's "Six contes moraux" (six moral tales), and also the first of the series to attain full feature-length status (each of the first two entries, La Boulangere de Monceau and La Carriere de la Suzanne, ran less than one hour). Patrick Bauchau plays a self-centered young man on summer holiday in the Mediterranean. He finds himself irresistibly attracted to Haydee (Haydee Politoff,) the aloof young woman who shares his St. Tropez villa. Haydee is a sexual libertine, a "collector of men" (hence the film's title), but she appears disinterested in Patrick. For his part, the hero assumes that the girl's promiscuity is deliberately calculated to prompt him to seduce her. Filmed in 1967, La Collectioneuse was released in the US in 1971, by which time the fourth of Rohmer's Six Moral Tales, My Night at Maud's (69), had already debuted in America. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this high-seas adventure, a dashing pirate and his loyal crew take on a wicked king forced his way onto the throne with his own bad pirates. The newly empowered villain kidnaps the daughter of the deposed Duke and forces her into marriage. Fortunately, the good pirates attack on her wedding day. A long, bloody battle takes place while the palace women, including the bride take refuge in the dungeon. The conniving leader ruthlessly orders the dungeon flooded, but fortunately, the good pirate manages to save all the women, while the bad one finds himself impaled by his own booby-trap. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Curvaceous Mamie Van Doren plays a super-genius who finds herself in charge of a college science department. Mamie would like to be appreciated for her intellect alone, but her male students (and most of the faculty) are preoccupied by her monumental breasts. The science department is virtually controlled by a huge robot called Thinko, which plays bets on horses. Gangsters Mickey Shaughnessy and Allan Drake try to neutralize Thinko, who's been right once too often. Strongarming their way on campus, the two crooks recognize Mamie as a former striptease artist. Forced to resign, she marries professor Martin Milner, who has loved her pure and chaste from afar. One expects to see such people as Jackie Coogan, John Carradine and Louis Nye in garbage like this-but how did Tuesday Weld get talked into participating? And wait till you see that nightclub number performed by Conway Twitty. The producers of Une Balles dans le Canou (A Slug in the Heater) undoubtedly believed that the magical name of BARDOT on the marquee would draw in patrons by the thousands. Imagine the surprise of some of those patrons when the film's star turned out not to be Brigitte Bardot, but her younger sister Mijanou. Alas, the younger Bardot has none of her celebrated sibling's sensuality or charisma. The story concerns a couple of ex-servicemen who engineer a robbery, only to run afoul of professional criminals. There is little to recommend the film outside of the assured supporting performance of the always interesting Roger Hanin. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
