While enjoying a leisurely ocean cruise in the company of secretary Della (Barbara Hale), Perry (Raymond Burr) is approached by passenger Anna Houser (Lurene Tuttle), who is worried about the wellbeing of her husband Carl (Theodore Newton). Not long afterward, Carl is seen jumping off the ship, an apparent suicide--but when the body is recovered, it turns out that he was shot. Accused of murder, Anna puts her fate in the hands of Perry, who in the course of piecing things together unearths the fact that Carl had once accepted a huge bribe while serving on a jury. And how does that mysterious wheelchair-bound passenger, whose face is completely wrapped in bandages, figure into the story? This episode is based on a 1938 novel by Perry Mason creator Erle Stanley Gardner. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Another American-International opus which managed to attain top bookings on the strength of an exploitational titles, Runaway Daughters concentrates on the misadventures of a trio of teenaged girls. Audrey Barton (Marla English) wants something more out of life than her parents' money can buy; Dixie (Mary Ellen Kaye) wants to escape the tyranny of her misogynistic father; and Angela Forrest (Gloria Castillo) is a child of divorce, left to fend for herself in a hostile world. Not surprisingly, our three heroines end up in a heap of trouble in their pursuit of happiness; also not surprisingly, the film promises far more than it delivers. Of interest is the presence in the cast of 1930s film star Anna Sten. Runaway Daughters was originally released on a double bill with A-I's Shake, Rattle and Rock; it was remade for cable TV in 1994, as part of Showtime's "Rebel Highway" series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Former child actor Dean Stockwell makes his first grown-up appearance in The Careless Years. Stockwell plays a mixed-up high schooler who wishes to marry Natalie Trundy, but the girl's parents (played by John Stephenson and Barbara "June Cleaver" Billingsley) feel the couple should complete school first. Dean and Natalie impulsively run off to elope, while Natalie's anguished parents inaugurate a nationwide search for the wayward kids. Though it is fairly clear that Dean and Natalie have gotten to know each other intimately during their flight, they meekly return home and agree to "wait" until school is out. Careless Years served to introduce promising young actress Natalie Trundy, whose starring career was cut short by an auto accident that kept her off-screen until the late 1960s. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
