The classic story of evil by Oscar Wilde is a plodding, campy, trashy production that gives the viewer moments of unintentional laughter. Dorian Gray (Helmut Berger) is the vain young Englishman who sells his soul to the devil to remain eternally youthful in appearance. His portrait is being painted by Basil (Richard Todd), much to the delight of his first true love Sybil (Marie Liljedahl). Lord Henry Wolton (Herbert Lom )is Dorian's partner in collaborating with evil. Gray remains the same but the picture reflects his image to show the ravages of old age and time. The drama, mystery and psychology of the original book is absent from this poorly made remake done 25 years earlier. Eva (Maria Liljedahl) is the virginal teenager who wishes to hold onto her status for a while longer. She and her girlfriend Yvonne (Karin Schubert) are pursued by two teenaged wolves whose sole mission in life is seducing young girls. Eva remains steadfast in her desire to remain a virgin, but sex is everywhere in her world. She sees her parents making love, then her father is seen having sex with another woman. Frustrating both to those who view this X-rated movie seeking a simple sex-flick, and those looking for an art-piece, this movie is a bit of a spoof on both. The story concerns the Yugoslavian holiday of two toothsome Swedish girls. One of the girls, played by Maria Liljedahl, is (metaphorically speaking) a world-champion in the promiscuity sweepstakes, bedding men (and women) in great profusion. Somehow, the movie also manages to be about film reviewers and film directors. Former ballerina Marie Liljedahl became an international sex symbol after this provocative exploitation film from director Joe Sarno (My Body Hungers). Liljedahl stars as Inga, a studious virgin who goes to stay with her 32-year old Aunt Greta (Monica Strommerstedt) at her home in Stockholm. The nubile Inga's presence disrupts the household, stirring trouble with Greta's kept boytoy Karl and her secret admirer Einar. Although melodramatic and trite, the film did a great deal of box-office business due to its steamy content and the frequent sexual activity of its beautiful young star. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
