William Katt plays Steve Shephard, a Vietnam Green Beret who has continued to fight on alone for 15years after the withdrawal of American forces. He's a renegade, seeking to avenge his fallen comrades and wearing spooky, white Kabuki-style makeup (hence the title) as he wages his one man war in a Vietnamese-Cambodian border area. As the film opens, the Pentagon receives a coded signal from Shephard that he's ready to come home. Ex-Green Beret Captain Walker (Wayne Crawford is dispatched with a team of vigilantes to find and return Shephard. The complication is that Walker and Shephard had clashed bitterly years earlier while in the same unit. White Ghost was filmed in Zimbabwe, doubling for the Southeast Asian locations. This moving docudrama on a man whose courage raised $20,000,000 for a worthy cause is also an honest look at the nature of determination. When Canadian Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer in 1977, his right leg was amputated and rather than simply battle depression, Fox decided to run his own cross-country marathon (5,150 miles) to raise money for cancer research. His parents, his doctor, and his friends opposed the idea but he persisted, convincing a friend with a camper to come along with him (or he could never have made the run). Fox starts at the Atlantic Ocean off Newfoundland, and with only a few supporters and very little fanfare, begins his odyssey. The amputee's human failings are clear: he is egocentric, impatient, short-tempered, and verges on the suicidal in forcing his endurance to the limit. As Fox's mental and emotional state is stretched at the beginning of the run, his friend driving the van has to call on his own reserves to stay with him. No one pays very much attention to Fox as he moves slowly through Quebec, but by the time he reaches Ontario, the Canadians start to notice his heroic effort. The Ontario Cancer Society representative, Bill Vigars (Robert Duvall), moves in like a steamroller to set up more sponsors, media events, and receptions. Fox is suddenly forced into the limelight, having to give speeches in front of huge audiences for the first time in his young life (he is 21). About half-way through his now well-publicized journey, Fox collapses and it becomes clear that his dream will have to end -- but not before he inspired millions of others to donate to cancer research. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Robert Desiderio stars in this TV movie as a Chinese food delivery man (the food is Chinese, not Desiderio). While on the job, he witnesses a murder. Since the killer was an international terrorist, Desiderio is pressed into duty by the US government. He is forced to moonlight as a spy, taking on seemingly trivial assignments that turn out to be of grave importance. That Moonlight was doomed from the start as the pilot for a series was indicated by the directorial credit given "Alan Smithee"--a pseudonym assumed whenever a director is so displeased by the end product that he (or she) desires to have his (or her) name removed from the credits. Jerry Kwan (Chan) is a Korean immigrant trying to make good in Chicago in the 1930s. Work isn't easy to find for an Asian immigrant. Jerry is forced by Domenici (Jose Ferrer), a well-connected mobster, to represent him in a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all battle in Texas. But can Jerry handle the pressure? The Big Brawl was Jackie Chan's first starring role in an American film, but Chan wouldn't break through in the United States until the 1996 U.S. release of Rumble in the Bronx. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

It's a personal crusade for the troubled detective: Back in 1969, he allegedly shot the Clothesline Killer to death--and now there is every possibility that he gunned down the wrong man. This videocassette consists of "The Secret Jade of Kuan Yin," an episode from the weekly Hardy Boys TV series (1977-78). While snorkeling, teenaged detectives Joe and Frank Hardy (Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson) come across a jade statuette. Before long, the boys discover that the artifact was stolen by an extortionist. It all ties in with a plan to gain a mob stranglehold on the city's Chinese community.
