Peter is a Swedish soldier, absent without leave after discovering his girlfriend's unfaithfulness to him. He is traveling south to Stockholm from the north of Sweden, possibly to confront his girlfriend, possibly to return to his post. He meets Hanna and her father along the way and travels with them. Hanna and her father had been separated for a long time and are enjoying a reunion. Annelie (Izabella Scorupco) is a teenager who is in love with Jonny (Hakon Lindberg) in this romantic drama. She defies her mother by traveling to visit her estranged father. Annelie goes to a remote part of northern Sweden to meet the man she has not seen in ten years. When father and daughter don't immediately get along, her romance with Jonny is jeopardized. The real Rakenstam, the subject of this fictional treatment of his life from 1942-1945 before his imprisonment, had romantic liaisons with hundreds of women over a three-year period and managed to scam large amounts of money from 120 of them, thriving off each one and somehow managing to make each believe she was the only woman in his life. He was 42 at the time he started these exploits, and even after he was caught because of a blackmailer, the women not only refused to sue him, but they filled his jail cell with roses. While his deception was a work in progress, there were many moments of anxiety (he had been engaged to two of the women) as he tried to juggle the women, pay off the blackmailer, and maintain his identity as a businessman or banker. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Saudi Arabia has decided to order 1000 yachts from Swedish yacht-builders, the difficulty being how to choose between two competitors and the solution being to set them off in a boat race against each other with the winning team walking away with the lucrative contract. A Saudi prince will be there to watch the eventful race, and tensions are running high. Complications arise from the fact that one of the teams could not build their way out of a paper bag without major mishaps, while the other team is so sophisticated it could fold the same bag up as an origami ship and float it out to sea. In a characterization that twists and turns like an insomniac, (Ewa Froeling) does the best she can with the female lead, Sally. The "liberated" Sally (a social worker) first wants to marry, and did marry Jonas, the lawyer. She wanted a child and did have little Mia. She does not want another child, gets pregnant, and gets an abortion without telling Jonas ahead of time. She next wants a divorce, and gets one, leaving with Mia. Then she wants to live together with Simon, a teacher, but does not want to marry him - and she carries that out. Then she wants Mia to live with Jonas, and sends her away. When she sees Jonas is happily married again, and Mia is happy, she wants to be married too. Simon does not. She wants a child. Simon does not. She gets pregnant. Simon does not want the child. She goes for another abortion. To say that Sally does not know her own mind, is to assume that the character has one as she fluctuates between wanting marriage and wanting divorce, wanting a baby and wanting an abortion, not wanting marriage and wanting marriage, not wanting an abortion and not wanting a baby. In this Swedish comedy, Felix wants to transcend his limitations completely. To that end, he leaves his country home and enrolls in training as a fireman's apprentice. If all goes well, not only will he overcome his fear of heights, but also his fear of dangers of all kinds. Alas, things do not go well, and he is dismissed. Felix does show courage, however, when he talks his father out of a suicide attempt. Then for some reason, the boy chooses to steal an ambulance: he plans to try his hand at taking a patient to a hospital, somewhere, sometime.
